      SULUR KHADI CLUSTER
      • Tamilnadu Khadi and Village Industries Board, is the Chief Executive Body which is executed by the Chief Executive Officer and he is the responsible officer for whole management all over Tamilnadu State.

    • Sanction of SFURTI The Khadi and Village Industries Commission has sanctioned Sfurti programme to Tamilnadu Khadi and Village Industries Board, to implement the programme at Sulur under the administrative control of Assistant Director , Tamilnadu Khadi and industries, Tirupur. The Scheme was launched on December’2008
    • Financial aspects
    • Location of the cluster
      • Sulur Cluster is one of the most important and very big area coverage. The Sulur Khadi Cluster is located in Coimbatore and Tirupur District The Khadi Cluster is Characterised as blocks. Each blocks there are more sub centres where the Artisans centres are centered.
    • REPLACEMENT OF EQUIPMENTS
      • The Charkhas and looms in the cluster are very old and difficult to operate. Due to this problems the production as well as wages to the artisans are very low. To rectify this problem 290 numbers of 8 spindle NMC charkhas. were purchased and replaced the old charkhas.
      • To make easy operation, increase of production and higher wages for artisans.

      • 30 numbers of Gramlakshmi pedal looms were purchased and replaced the traditional looms to increase the cloth production and wages to the artisans.

    • Common Facility Centre
      • The very most problem to weavers is warping and sizing process. The process being conducted by the whole family members.
      • To overcome this problem, ready warping and sizing unit is to be establish by the cluster.
      • As per the action plan 2011-12, it is proposed to set up a warping and sizing unit in this cluster.
      • This will leads higher and quality production. Also increased wages to the artisans and to attract the younger generations to this activity.

      • To improve the sales of khadi cloth, especially younger generation to use khadi readymade garments will be produced.

      • Khadi Board has set up a readymade garments units at Tirupur to the tune of 8.00 lakhs under SFURTI scheme.

    • Value Addition
      • Readymade garments are manufactured by engaging self help group. Also to promote sales of more readymade items value addition is needed.
      • For the value addition hand embroidering machine also purchased and impart training to the self help groups .

      • Training to spinners and weavers on skill development
      • Exposure visit conducted for 35 artisans by visiting to Byanoor (Kerala State) Hubli (Karnataka state) Padiyur (Tamilnadu State)
      • Artisan were covered under JBSY insurance scheme (JANASHREE BIMA YOJANA SCHEME)
      • 15 Artisans welfare self help group were formed and need based training was given. Related to trade issues skill development self help credit and other training are to be conducted.
      • Health Awareness Camps were organised to the artisans.
      • Artisans are covered with newly formed Khadi spinners and weavers welfare Board by Tamilnadu Government
    • SUCCESS OF THE CLUSTER
      • The implementation agency formed 15 self help groups with the members of spinners and weavers.
      • To provide self help credit and other trainings are to be given to improve the social economic condition of the cluster members.
    • SUCCESS OF THE CLUSTER
      • Tamilnadu Khadi and Village industries Board distributed 290 NMC charkhas and 30 Semi automatic pedal looms and impart systematic training to the spinners and weavers based on the demand of market trend.
      • Prior to Sfurti, artisans earned lesser wages. After the implementation of the Sfurti Scheme the production increased and also earning of the artisans are increased.
      • The I.A had introduced a readymade garments unit under CFC to increase the sales of Khadi cloth.
      • The production has also been increased ultimately to artisans engaged spinning and weaving are benefited with increased wages.
      • Khadi Board gets RC supply order for the value of Rs. 35 lacs. from the Railway Department for the supply of Dungry Cloth and Polyester Bed sheets

      • Initialisation of glow sign boards at 5 places.
      • Advertisement given in the Jagrithi manual.

    • Product Development
      • KVIC approved designer is engaged to create new designs in the khadi garments
