  5. 5. Castillo de San Marcos The site was never taken by force despite multiple periods of attack.The Castillo de San Marcos site is theoldest masonry fort in the United States.
  6. 6. St. Augustine Lighthouse The lighthouse was built in1874 and is located on Anastasia Island. During World War II the lighthouse was used as a lookout post for enemy ships and submarines which frequented the coastline.
  7. 7. The Great CrossThe Great Cross celebrates the Four Hundredth anniversary of the Mission ofNombre de Dios and the City of St. Augustine. It is made of stainless steel and rises two hundred and eight feet above the marshes of the Matanzas River.
  8. 8. The Beautiful Water The Intracoastal Waterway in St. Augustine is home to many sail boat races and activities throughout the year.
