  • 1.  Innovation generally refers to renewing, changing or creating more effective processes, products or ways of doing things  Innovation in business application of new ideas to solve the problem  Being innovative does not mean inventing; it can mean changing your business model and adapting to changes in your environment to deliver better products or services
  • 2.  To meet the needs of the present without the compromising the ability to meet the need of the future  Sustainability in Business is defined as managing the triple bottom line-a process by which companies manage theirfinancial,social,environm entalrisks,obligations&opport unities. (referred to as PPP)
  • 3.  Business and Sustainability is a concept that says businesses can function and earn a profit while at the same time minimizing or eliminating any negative impact on the environment from its operations  The need for adopting best practices led to innovation  So, for industrial development to be sustainable, it must address important issues at the macro level, such as economic efficiency (innovation, prosperity, productivity), social equity (poverty, community, health and wellness, human rights) and environmental accountability (climate change, land use, biodiversity)
  • 4.  Think frugal, be flexible and breakthrough growth generate  A creative or innovative idea providing a quick, alternative way of solving or fixing a problem  Innovation is the mother of sustainability, innovation leads to sustainability and need of sustainable development leads to innovation, they are inter-dependant on each other

  • 7.   The Tata Swach water filter is 50 per cent cheaper than its nearest competitor, and can clean 3,000 liters without electricity or running water. Recently India Successfully launched Spacecraft to Mars “Mangalayan”. -It the cheapest mission of $72 million project, which was accomplished in record time
  • 8. In the high valleys of Ladakh, farmers can grow fresh vegetables through the freezing winters by an innovative Green house -Carbon emissions cut by around 460 tonnes a year -leading to better nutrition and health benefits for over 50,000 people -Increase in employment opportunities and their incomes have increased by around 30% 
  • 9.  Mansukhbhai from Gujarat and his concept of the Mitticool clay refrigerator Some of his other products that he came up after years of experimentation are, a 0.9-micron water filter, a pressure cooker, non stick pans that can be used over an LPG gas stove and many more. Now his dream is to design a ‘Mitticool House’ that would stay naturally cool all by itself, there would be no need for Air Conditioners anymore
  • 10.    Devi Shetty's Narayana Hrudayalaya to conduct heart surgeries at world's cheapest rates Aravind Eye hospital, while richer clients pay for the privilege of private rooms, the same quality healthcare is provided to poorer clients on a ‘no frills’ basis Jaipur Foot low-cost foot prosthesis, that costs 200times less than the latest prosthetic options available

  • 12.      Cloud computing Kenya’s M–PESA mobile phone payment and money transfer system An app is the western equivalent of Jugaad Grameen Bank, where Muhammad Yunus got the idea of giving small loans to the poor without collateral Over 4 million cars in Brazil are now running on gasohol instead of petrol. Gasohol is a fuel made from sugar cane
  • 13.  "It is fundamentally about doing more with less, for more and more people” and thinking about future generations, is clearly core to Sustainable innovation.  Usage of limited resources and with less negative impact on environment sustainability driving the innovation and innovation driving the sustainable development leads to upliftment of people planet and prosperity

  • 15.   The Aravind Eye Hospital, where some doctors felt strongly about needless blindness. Or the Grameen Bank, where Muhammad Yunus got the idea of giving small loans to the poor without collateral or paperwork because he felt strongly about rural folks But we fail to innovate substantially in India because we have only engineering capacity and not such intense thoughts or feelings and basically to avert the risk
  • 16.   Having discussed the culture of Jugaad in India and global wide and its contribution to sustainability, the inter-dependant nature of innovation and sustainability leading to Sustainable development The need of human element for innovation to attain the goals of sustainable development
