  • Today we want to talk about the service description, pricing, and benefits, and show you how MPLS IP-VPN can really benefit your organization. And to do that, we will take you through a live instance of an MPLS demo network in which we will show you how IP-VPN and specifically, Class of Service, can help you manage your applications.
  • What is MPLS IP-VPN? It is a multi-site, private networking service for IP data and voice transport. One of the main benefits of Layer 3 VPN is that you can have multiple types of access—serial access, Ethernet, or even integrated access.First, XO offers type 2 Ethernet throughout our entire footprint. And we also offer IP-Flex with VPN which is an integrated access product that has private networking built into it. All of these types of access can be mixed and matched on a single network which overall leads to a more flexible arrangement for you.Additionally, the way we do Class of Service is that it originates on the CE but what makes us a little bit different from the some of the other providers is that we maintain CoS markings across our backbone. So overall, we feel we have one of the most flexible MPLS IP-VPN services in the industry.
  • In the way XO has set up our VPN service, we offer several advantages.First, we have a service that enables you to have a more cost effective network management structure.Second, we offer a fully managed solution which means that we can configure, deploy, manage and monitor CPE at each site. We have the ability to bundle internet access on your IP-VPN ports. And we also offer some really great tools to help you monitor your applications. One of these tools we call Applications Performance Management or APM.
  • These are the three ways that we can handle router management with MPLS IP-VPN.First, XO can lease and manage the CPE for you.Second, we can lease you the gear and you can mange it yourself. And third, you can buy your own CPE and manage it yourself.
  • Now we want to talk about Class of Service.XO does Class of Service a little differently from the other providers.First, when you buy a Class of Service from XO, you get access to all four Classes of Service at one competitive flat rate.Second, XO does not police bandwidth. What that means is that all classes have access to the bandwidth that is available in that class and the Real Time Class has access to the full port speed.Class of Service is optional. However, we recommend customers take advantage of it, especially given that our offer is very flexible and affordable.
  • SLAs – We feel that we have very competitive SLAs. And one area where we feel we stand out is with Jitter. No other provider that we have been able to find, offers Jitter metrics measured in microseconds. This is important because Jitter is very critical to having a quality VoIP experience. Every other provider that we have seen offers Jitter SLAs in the one to two millisecond range.Availability is 100%.
  • This live demo utilizes the XO MPLS Demo Network and a traffic generator tool to demonstrate the real time impact of changes in traffic running Class of Service and VoIP over the MPLS network. This demo can be given by either the local, Regional, or Core SE. The SE must have a userid and password to the XO Traffic Generator Scheduler at http://trafsched/ and schedule time on the XO Demo MPLS Network to run the demo. To implement the various scenarios, log on to the traffic generator tool at http://maintfaceman/traffgen/. The APM tool can be accessed at https://apps.xo.com/WebApplicationClient/.By generating different traffic scenarios, the customer will be able to see the real time impact of changes in traffic on Class of Service and VoIP over the MPLS network. The following 5 slides are placeholders for the 5 demo scenarios:CoS turned off, best effort traffic floods linkCoS turned on, best effort traffic floods linkVoIP and CoS turned off, best effort traffic floods linkVoIP and CoS turned on, best effort traffic floods linkApplications Management Dashboard

  • In summary, XO has a broad network with 75 metropolitan markets. We have a Tier 1 network that is extremely robust. We have flat rate pricing for all four Classes of Service.
