  • 18. Paper Mill <ul><li>Capellades was an important center of paper production in the XVIII and XIX centuries. </li></ul><ul><li>The Paper Mill of Capellades is situated in the center of the town. The old mill is called ‘‘Molí de la Vila’’. Next to the Mill, there is a basin of water from which 12 milions of liters of water each day are used to produce energy. </li></ul><ul><li>The Museum was inaugurated on the 6 th of July in 1961. </li></ul>

  • 20. Manresana Tower and Popular Army Base La Manresana Tower Popular Army Base What happened? There was a battle. The Republican Army created a training basey camp. Who was there? The battle was between Catalan/Austrian and French/Castilians. Young men recruited to fight with the Republican Army were there. Why did it happen? The battle was part of a war to decide who would be the next king of Spain. The base was necessary to prepare men for fighting. When did it happen? The battle took place in 1711. The base was created in the spring of 1938, towards the end of the Spanish civil war. Where in Anoia county did it happen? Els Prats de Rei. The camp is located in Pujalt.

  • 22. Geocaching <ul><li>Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache hidden at that location. </li></ul>
  • 23. L’Abric Romaní Shelter in Capellades <ul><li>Abric Romaní is an i mportant Paleolithic archaeological site dating from between 40,000 and 80,000 years ago. </li></ul><ul><li>There, many exceptionally preserved remains have been found:bones of animals, wood and flint tools and many hearths. </li></ul><ul><li>Neanderthals controlled the fire, they used precise tools, and they had oral language skills. </li></ul>
  • 24. Neanderthal man <ul><li>The Neanderthals had large muscles, great physical strength and short legs. Homo sapiens had got larger legs . </li></ul><ul><li>Neanderthals lived in Europe 230.000 years ago. </li></ul>

  • 26. The Christmas Log <ul><li>The Catalan name is Caga Tió. It takes place on the 25th of December. The people who participate in it are kids, because they believe that it is real, but adults put the presents under the Christmas Log. The kids hit the Christmas Log with a stick, and find the presents. </li></ul>
  • 27. The Legend of Calaf Market <ul><li>The lord of the village gave Calaf’s citiziens the privilege of having a market every Saturday. When the day started, the town’s people went to the market. An icy wind started to blow and the people could not speak. The place was silent. The sun continued to rise and gained strength. At noon it began to shine brightly gradually thawing the ice and the words could be heard. In the market everyone was heard all at once. There were a lot of people shouting in the market. They were confused and they covered their ears to keep from going deaf. </li></ul>

  • 29. Reflection and Final Thoughts <ul><li>Doing this project we have learnt many things of the county that we didn ’ t know before. The most interesting and surprising was that Igualada is one of the smallest towns in the county but has the highest population. We think that we could use this information in the future to explain them as a curiosity. </li></ul>
