Grandpa
1. Grandpa
Look at his eyes
They are as blue as the sky
The day he was born
Everyone says
He looks just like you
He has your nose
And even your monkey toes
All I can say
Is that I pray
That someday you become the man
That Grandpa and I tried to be
What you have of me
Comes from a man called Grandpa
A man of great character
A fellow they all called Boo-gee
An aplomb friend of mine
Said to hold you up high
For Grandpa to see
What the Lord has given me
What your Grandpa did for me
Is now my charge and creed
To guide your heart
To where it should beat
Your Grandpa was tough
And maybe a little rough
But his heart was sound
Always kept his feet on the ground
He worked hard and long
His hands worn but strong
He was a Navy Sailor
Always thought there was nothing greater
I believe
That you both have already met
He is proud just like me
Of the man you will surely come to be
We won't be in a hurry
The telling of Grandpa's days
For there are many chapters in his book
Page by page We will relive his ways
With heart and reverence
We will leaf through his tome
Recounting the composition of lessons
Both pointed and by chance
Growing together in remembrance
All this I must do
Its the father to son way
A lasting celebration to legacy
for you to pass along someday
