  2. 2. 1) Puneet’s decision regarding his career ? Decision to pursue family business is right instead of a career in Mckinsey.  In the family business, he got the personal freedom and ability to create wealth. The above mentioned factor can be correlated to the two factor hygiene theory of management. Here it indicates the motivation factor.
  3. 3. 2)Diversification of the Dalmia group into Services? We would not support Puneet’s enthusiasm to diversify into services sector ,because its not in their DNA. They don’t have the required expertise, talent and technology to enter into other sectors.The heart of Dalmia group is the manufacturing sector.
  4. 4. 3) SWOT Analysis - Positives 70 years of experience in the cement industry. High Quality of products and constant Innovation. Plant located close to raw materials. Committed to people. Leader in fast growing niche segments. Strong distribution network. Pioneers in super speciality cements such as for oil wells, railway sleepers and air strips.
  5. 5. 3) SWOT Analysis - Negatives Capital allocation – a emotional decision , since it is being a family run business. Average age group of employees are higher. Attracting quality talent is a difficult task. Day to day operations of the business are being taken care by the family (i.e.) they are not well structured. Excess supply of cement in the market.
  6. 6. 4)Impact of CCI order on DCBL against cement cartelization ? DCBL was not penalised by Competition Commission of India (CCI) for Cartelization. This order dates back to June 2012 and CCI penalised only those companies who violated the provisions of Competition Act 2002  This has been done to prevent cement manufacturers from creating an artificial shortage and jacking up the prices.
  7. 7. 5) Theme of Gandhian Engineering for Dalmia group: More from less for more. Reduce the cost of production by research & efficient sourcing of raw materials such as limestone, clay, etc. Operational efficiency can be improved by having technological advancements through indigenous research. Recruit Professionals to run the business in a structured manner. Reduce the average age of employees by hiring more young people. Leverage the enthusiasm, creativity and intelligence of young employees with the wisdom of old employees.
  8. 8. Summary Puneet Dalmia is a good example of a Young Turk, who has the enthusiasm, relevant experience and guts to set new standards. He takes short comings and achievements with ease. He is a hard worker, strong delegator and very passionate about the organisation.
