My First Time Voting - Presentation Transcript

  1. My First Time Voting A true story by: Valia L. Judy
  2. My First Time Voting
    • The first thing I had to do in order to be able to vote was to register to vote.
    •
    • Was registering to vote hard?
    •
    • One word: NO!
      •   I simply filled out a voter
    • registration form and mailed it.
    •
  3. My First Time Voting
    • How long does registering to vote take?
    • Not long at all!
      • It only took me about 5 minutes.
      • You can find voter registration forms at your high school (must be 17 to register), college, or local borough office.
      • Note: If you plan on voting in an upcoming election, make sure you meet the deadline to register before the election!
    •
  4. My First Time Voting
    • The day at the polls:
      • I voted after I got off work,
    •      around 5:00 p.m.
      • I was surprised as the line was
    •      not long at all!
      •   People were chatting about
    •       the candidates, but not who they were voting for.
  5. My First Time Voting
    • The day at the polls:
    •
      •   As I neared the front of the line, I got a little nervous as I didn't know what to expect.
      • Thankfully, I was met with friendly faces ready to help me with the voting process.
      • A kind woman verified my voter registration card, while a friendly man directed me to an empty polling booth.
  6. My First Time Voting
      • The ballot was covered on both sides,
    •      so I could cast my vote in peace.
      • The ballot itself was a touch screen,
    •      which I was accostumed to using in
    •      stores for my ATM transactions.
      • In a matter of minutes, I cast my vote!
  7. My First Time Voting
            • Why should you vote?
    •
    •
    • It's simple.  Governments control every aspect of your life :
    •
      • How much taxes you pay out of your weekly salary.
      • The right to or not to a fair trial.
      •   The right to or not to own a gun.
      • The right to or not to practice a religion..
    • ...and so much more!
    •
  8. My First Time Voting     Frequently Asked Questions
    • Question:
    • How old do I have to be to vote?
    • Do I need a driver's license to  be able to vote?
    • What should I bring with me to the polls?
    • Do I have to vote for the party I registered as?

    • No, you can use your social security card as identification.
    • Driver's license or social security card and voter registration card if no driver's license.
