  • Research shows that kids who do not read over the summer often suffer from"summer slide" or "brain drain." This means that it can take longer to catch up and get inthe swing of things when the new school year starts and grades can suffer. Dont let thishappen! READ, READ, READ! If you need a little extra push or incentive to get youreading, there are programs for little kids, big kids, and grown ups too (parents andteachers, you need to be good reading role models!) Participate in the summerreading program at the Lexington County Public Library; participate in the ScholasticSummer Reading Challenge; or come up with your own summer reading challenge(you could even join Mrs. Byrd Fort and challenge yourself to read a #bookaday thissummer)! Doesn’t matter how you do it, just as long as you READ!Don’t know what to read? Check out this list of authors and resources! Mrs. ByrdFort will be sharing more ideas on the Learning Commons Facebook, Twitter, andInstagram pages throughout the summer – be sure to LIKE and FOLLOW the LearningCommons so that you don’t miss out!Valerie Byrd Fort, NPES Teacher Librarianvfort@lexington1.netScan the QR code above to visit our webpage!PS - Students who show Mrs. Byrd Fort their reading log by August 23 will receive a prize!Authors/Illustrators for grades K-2Best for K-2, but kids in 3-5 will like them too!David Adler *Author of the Cam Jansen seriesTedd ArnoldBrod BagertPhil BildnerJan BrettMarc Brown *Author of the Arthur seriesPeter BrownEric CarleDoreen CroninTomie DePaolaLois EhlertAnthony FredericksGail GibbonsKevin HenkesSteve Jenkins *Animal Non-fiction!Ezra Jack KeatsJon KlassenJarrett J.
