  • This PPT will provide you with more details about the 4 assignments making up a Risk Management Plan RMP.
  • Part A - “Setting The Stage” will do just that. You will identify key pieces of information required to be successful in building and implementing your plan!
  • The RMP Project is about learning the concepts well so that in future Crisis situations you can compress the process without missing key elements. The CSA standard is an excellent tool for learning the concepts. It is not unusual to NOT use that format in real life situations!
  • One of the key components is identifying ALL stakeholders for your issue. Some of these will be working with you to overcome the issue. Others may be working against you to sabotage your efforts. And finally, there will be the stakeholders who definitely want the issue resolved, but they may be so angry or upset that they distract you from accomplishing your goals.
  • All four parts of the RMP will build on each other to provide you with your final plan. One addition assignment will look at the media response to your plan and how you can manage that process.
  • (Read slide) This course and assignments are about the process, not the scientific or technical responses.
  • I am not looking for regurgitation of the Standard, but a demonstration of your understanding of the concepts through the development of your plan. i.e. In listing your stakeholders, if you miss most of them I will wonder if you truly understand. I would not necessarily expect anyone to identify ALL stakeholders as that is a difficult task for most larger issues.
  • These are the two scenarios that you get to choose between for the RMP. Your choice will be for all 4 parts of the RMP as it builds on each part to completion.
  • These next 2 slides cover the components of the RMP - Part “A”
  • Please pay attention to all Deadlines. They are critical for our process IF you want feedback at the appropriate stages. I also believe that the site may not allow you to post after the deadline without prior approval from the instructor! You may want to avoid that step!!!
  • Remember, if you have a question, probably others have the same question! Please post all questions on our website so that all can see the question, all may respond, and all can see all of the responses and discussions. This is an important part of your learning process!
  • Thank You !

  • HPEO403 Risk Management: Perception & Communication UNIT 1 Assignment # 2 Plus Risk Management Project (RMP)
  • Risk Management Project
    • This is the beginning of a 4 part assignment to develop a Risk Management Plan (RMP)
    • RMP Part “A” is “Setting The Stage”, which is about determining what the issue is and some key pieces of information required to be successful
    Assignment # 2
  • Risk Management Project
    • The aim of this assignment is to apply the theory learned in all the units of your course to the development of a simulated risk management plan.
    • You will use the CAN/CSA-Q850-97 framework from the readings to help you develop this plan.
  • Risk Management Project
    • This assignment involves 4 stages or parts.
    • The process will include identifying a hazard, identifying the stakeholders involved, preparing a preliminary analysis of the hazard and a risk estimation; then drafting a management plan for the topic you have chosen.
  • Risk Management Project
    • This assignment is an iterative process, where the final report is build upon the work that you do throughout the class.
    • The last RMP assignment deals with how the media might handle your RMP.
  • Risk Management Project
    • In developing this plan, you are not expected to demonstrate expertise in toxicology, epidemiology or statistics.
    • Toxicology
    • Epidemiology
    • Statistics
  • Risk Management Project
    • What your instructor is looking for is a solid demonstration of your understanding of the requirements of the risk management process, clearly communicated, following the CAN/CSA-Q850-97 format.
  • Choose One!
    • A principal of a local school approaches you. Concerned parents are coming to his office with an article from the Globe & Mail . This discusses a recent study that showed high levels of arsenic in wood preservatives used on the school playground equipment.
    • Concerned citizens approach you. They have been told their local water supply does not meet the Canadian drinking water standards. They have read about the deaths from the E. coli contamination of the Walkerton town water supply.
  • RMP – Part “A”
    • Define the risk management problem or issue. The statement should not exceed 100 words. (Section 4.2)
    • Identify the risk management team for your simulated plan. List members by title and role on the team. (Section 4.3)
    • Assign responsibility, authority, and resources for the project. Describe who is responsible for what and briefly outline what resources are available to complete the project. You may use a diagram, table, or statement of not more that 200 words. (Section 4.4)
  • RMP – Part “A”
    • Identify a list of potential stakeholders. Match each stakeholder with its relationship to the issue. For example: Provincial Government -- enforcement of legislation (name of act); XXX Union -- representative for workers; Friends of the Environment Group -- environmental community group; etc. (Sections 4.5.1 and 4.5.2)
  • RMP – Part “A”
    • Assignment RMP- Part “A” is due by Wednesday, February 9, 2011, by 11:55 PM
