A critical look at the economic benefits of foreign
assistance and its success in building and sustaining
Speaker: Professor Arnold Harberger
Chief Economic Advisor to USAID and
Professor of Economics at the University of California, Los Angeles
Professor Harberger is a leading international expert on economic development and
consults widely with international organizations and with developing countries in Asia,
Central America, Latin America and the Middle East.
He has served as a consultant to sixteen foreign governments, nine U.S. government
agencies (including USAID), and eight international agencies and foundations (including
the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank).
Numbered among his students at the University of Chicago and the University of
California Los Angeles are more than a dozen central bank presidents and two dozen
foreign government ministers.
