During these occasions the ability to conduct sling load operations becomes a vital step in de- termining the successful outcome of the Army’s mission. Using hands-on training to achieve this goal, the 37th Korean Service Corps (KSC) integrated with the 6th KSC and the 2nd platoon of the 563rd Medical Logistics Com- pany to conduct sling load training at the Camp Carroll helipad, June 20. According to 37th KSC Co. Commander Kim, Ung-op, “The purpose of this type of training is to evaluate KSC officer’s ability to carry out tasks accurately and profes- sionally. This type of training requires that they are able to identify those characteristics associated with proper sling sets, while performing sling load maneuvers cor- rectly. Other things they have to be mindful of involves performing safety checks with rigging, unloading loads from the helicopter, and using proper hand signals as they communicate with the helicopter.” “The realistic training allows the KSC individuals an opportunity to practice the various sling load techniques in a way that does not come along too often,” said 37th KSC Executive Officer, Kim, Po-sung. “Executing these various maneuvers without causing harm to the helicopter, or damage to property and personnel is quite a challenge. The area is a popular recreation spot that draws hikers from the Seoul region. Smoking, starting fires, dumping garbage, or damaging trees, are forbidden, and violators are subject to fines and other legal action. Shortly after the Yongsan-gu fire squad arrived ongarrison, the two teams listened as the garrison fire chiefAlex H.
