CONFERENCE INVITATION
« Family Values and their link to Economic Well-Being and Social Outcomes.»
June 30, 2014 - July 1, 2014, Geneva, Switzerland
6th June 2014
Dear Friend,
To mark the 20th anniversary of the International Year of the Family, the Universal Peace Federation
(UPF) in partnership with the Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) are pleased to invite you
to participate in and contribute to a special programme on the very topical theme of « Family Values
and their link to Economic Well-Being and Social Outcomes.»
This conference will be convened in Geneva, Switzerland on June 30 & July 1st 2014, at the United
Nations’ ‘Palais des Nations’, Room XXV. Day one will feature distinguished speakers on family
issues and policy from all over Europe. Four speakers in each session will be followed by time for
questions and answers from the audience. On 2, July 1st, also at The ‘Palais des Nations Room XXV,
there will follow a series of mainly interactive sessions with far fewer set presentations and with
discussion and strategizing as the main focus. The purpose of this second day is for like-minded
persons concerned about the breakdown in society of morality, marriage and family to be able to
come up with ideas and policies for reversing these trends.
There is currently widespread confusion in these areas caused by a combination of a breakdown in
moral and social values, political meddling and the adoption of policies that can only be described as
reckless and which threaten accelerating social chaos. Faced with these realities, parents often feel
powerless to protect their children from very controversial influences at a time of social
experimentation. What are the consequences of these developments? What has been done so far to
rectify them and what needs to be done from now on?
This conference will bring together experts, from various fields, including politics, religion, science
and academia as well as leaders of various family and parent associations to examine these issues and
to seek solutions to the problems raised by them. We will also seek to understand how like-minded
persons concerned about these issues can better work together to turn the tide. We believe your
participation in this important conference will contribute to its success and are confident that it will
also provide participants with much food for thought, renewed hope and optimism as well as many
networking possibilities.
Details of how to participate in the conference and about conference policies are contained overleaf.
We look forward very much to receiving your registration and to meeting you during the conference.
Sincerely yours,
C 0arolyn Handschin Heiner Handschin Mark Brann

ABOUT CONFERENCE PARTICIPATION
TRAVEL
With the exception of designated staff and speakers travel costs will be the responsibility of the
participant or of his/her sponsors. Many budget airlines serve Geneva and link it to major centres
around Europe. Very reasonable return fares are currently available for the relevant dates. Please
book early so as to take advantage of low fares. Good, high speed rail links also link Geneva with
France, Italy, Austria and Germany and many may be able to make the journey by car if they live
within a 4-5 road journey from Geneva.
Participants who live more than 3-4 hours total travel time from Geneva should aim to arrive already
on Sunday June 29th in the evening as few flights permit arrival in Geneva early enough on the day.
HOSPITALITY & ACCOMODATION
Hotels
UPF/WFWP can only provide accommodation for conference staff and invited speakers. All other
participants will need to book their own hotel accommodation or have it booked for them by any
sponsor(s). However, we are recommending various hotels that are ideally located a short distance
from Geneva's ‘Cointrin’ Airport and close to the conference venue at the U.N. They (and particularly
hotels 1 & 3 below which are next door to each other) are close to each other and we strongly
recommend that all participants needing hotel accommodation choose them if at all possible as this
will help create a closer and more intimate conference atmosphere, especially if participants can have
breakfast or dinner together. Our conference staff will be on hand to point out places where all can
enjoy eating together if they wish.
The following are the recommended hotels for ELC participants that they can select from according to
budgetary and other preferences:
1) Budget hotel
IBIS BUDGET HOTEL Avenue Louis-Casai 26 1216 Cointrin (it is 2 bus stops from the
Airport and Airport train station and takes 5 minutes by bus from the Airport) Tel. +41 22 710
4636 CHF. 110. per night in a 3 bed room for 2-3 people, breakfast CHF. 12.--/person
2) Mid-range hotel
IBIS AIRPORT HOTEL is directly at the Geneva (Cointrin) airport and costs around CHF. 130
per night for 2 people in a twin bedded room. It is a 5 minute bus ride from the other 2 hotels.
3) Upper Middle range (3-4*) hotel
SUITE NOVOTEL (same location & building as IBIS BUDGET HOTEL) Avenue Louis-Casai
30 1216 Cointrin (2 bus stops away from the Airport and Airport train station, 5 minutes by
bus) Tel. +4122 710 46 46 CHF. 182.--/night 2 beds for 2 people, breakfast CHF. 12.--/person
Participants can either make a booking by telephone or go online and use www.booking.com
3
LOCAL TRANSPORTATION in Geneva is free to all hotel guests, who are entitled to receive a free
transport pass for the entire Geneva public transportation network. Those arriving by plane can
request a free transport pass upon arrival at the airport. This can also be requested later upon arrival
at the hotel. Proof of hotel reservation is of course necessary to secure this benefit at the airport.

euros to help cover conference costs.
