Our Fall Semester

  1. 1. WUSC UofA<br />What has our local committee accomplished this semester?<br />
  2. 2. Socials<br />-Summer Socials: spent time as an LC<br />-Banff Trip: four of our members went to Banff with the LC’s from WUSC at University of Calgary<br />
  3. 3. Student Refugee Program<br />-Welcomed Akol, our current sponsored student through the Student Refugee Program (SRP)<br /><ul><li>Outdoor Bakesalewhich raised over $200 to cover SRP settling costs
  4. 4. SRP Open House for students and faculty to learn about our sponsorship program
  5. 5. Akoltold his story of WUSC sponsorship at Red Cross Speaker Series
  6. 6. Akol was featured in the Gateway, our campus newspaper
  7. 7. Held an SRP training session for volunteers</li></li></ul><li>Promotions<br />- Tabled at Clubs Fair<br /><ul><li>Created Joint Recruitment Brochure
  8. 8. Discussed our Student Without Borders and International Seminar programs with students at Experiential Learning Fair and The Places You’ll Go (check out a video about last summer’s International Seminar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbFUhAhsCjg</li></li></ul><li>Fair Trade<br />-Handed out free fair trade hot chocolate, coffee, and tea every second Monday at Fair Trade Monday in the Tory Business Atrium to raise awareness of fair trade<br />-Reverse Trick or Treat on Halloween were we talked to 500 houses about fair trade!<br />-Sold fair trade shea butter products from women’s cooperatives in Burkina Faso at Just Christmas<br />
  9. 9. Awareness Events<br /><ul><li>Presented a workshop on Education at </li></ul>Stand Up, Take Action!<br /><ul><li>Toke action on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women at our Her Challenge, Your Challenge event

Held a movie night on environmental refugees during Sustainability Awareness Week</li></li></ul><li>Leadership & Training<br />-Sent Sepehr and Huiyi to SGS Leadership Summit to develop skills like financing, event planning, and networking for student groups <br />-Sent Adi to the Leadership Meeting to network, share skills and ideas with other representatives from different local committee leaders from across Canada<br />-Sent Julia to the AGA to meet other local committee leaders from across Canada and to learn about the work WUSC does abroad <br />
