TV Channels are the way today of
watching different types of programs
on different channels. This is so you
can choose what kind of genre you
want to watch for example history, you
would then go to a channel that
specialises in history. This gives the TV
industry more money due to
advertisement in the sector and a
percentage of the profit goes to
OFcom.
3. History of TV
The history of television comprises the work of numerous engineers and inventors in several countries over many
decades. The first practical demonstrations of television, however, were developed using electromechanical
methods to scan, transmit, and reproduce an image. As electronic camera and display tubes were perfected,
electromechanical television gave way to all-electronic systems in nearly all applications.
The beginnings of mechanical television can be traced back to the discovery of the photoconductivity of the
element selenium by Willoughby Smith in 1873, the invention of a scanning disk by Paul Gottlieb Nipkow in
1884 and John Logie Baird's demonstration of televised moving images in 1926.
As a 23-year-old German university student, Nipkow proposed and patented the first electromechanical
television system in 1884.
The first demonstration of the instantaneous transmission of images was by Georges Rignoux and A.
Fournier in Paris in 1909. A matrix of 64 selenium cells, individually wired to a mechanical commutator,
served as an electronic retina. In the receiver, a type of Kerr cell modulated the light and a series of
variously angled mirrors attached to the edge of a rotating disc scanned the modulated beam onto the
display screen. A separate circuit regulated synchronization. The 8x8 pixel resolution in this proof-of-
concept demonstration was just sufficient to clearly transmit individual letters of the alphabet. An updated
image was transmitted "several times" each second.
The first British television broadcast was made by Baird Television's electromechanical system over the BBC
radio transmitter in September 1929. Baird provided a limited amount of programming five days a week by
1930. During this time, Southampton earned the distinction of broadcasting the first-ever live television
interview, which featured Peggy O'Neil, an actress and singer from Buffalo, New York

Ofcom licenses all UK
commercial television and

Broadcasting Code also sets
out the rules which television
and radio broadcasters must
follow. This section includes

Quantitative and
qualitative research
published by Ofcom and
examining various aspects
of the television sector.
Channels with an audience share of between 0.05% and 1%
have the option either to broadcast 30 minutes of sign-
presented programming each month or to participate in
Ofcom-approved alternative arrangements that contribute to
the availability of sign-presented programming. Where 'Alt' is
shown against a channel, this indicates that the broadcaster is
contributing to the British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust
(BSLBT), which commissions sign-presented programming
which is broadcast on the Community Channel and Film 4.
5. TV rolesDirector
Editors
Researcher writer
A Writer creates and moulds
an original story, or adapts
other written, told, or acted
stories for production of
a television show. Their
finished work is called a script.
A script may also have been a
contribution of many writers,
The editor works in tandem
with the director to edit raw
footage into a finished work.
The director has ultimate
accountability for editing
choices, but often the editor
has substantial contribution in
the creative decisions
concerned in piecing together
a finalized product
A television director is usually
responsible for directing the
actors and other filmed
aspects of a television
production. The role differs
from that of a film
director because the major
creative control usually
belongs to the producer.
Researchers research the project
ahead of shooting time to
increase truth, factual content,
creative content, original ideas,
background information, and
sometimes performs minor
searches such as flight details,
location conditions,
accommodation details, etc.
6. TV Shows
Castle is a US crime drama, where a
best selling writer – Castle gets
together with a Detective Beckett with
castle being good friends with the
Mare, These two have an awkward
connection together as Detective
Beckett is ACHD about her murder
mysteries, working together.
24 Is my favourite TV show, About a
Character called Jack Bauer, A CTU Agent
going into danger for his county, this is a
dramatic drama in real time, each series
24 hours long, into 24 episodes, Just for
this it gives the show a distinctive tune
to it, At the moment there is news that
24 might be going to London for a series,
an episode? We don’t know.
The hustle, The hustle has now gone off

a team of long con artists (Drifters)
conning and tricking people into
hundreds of thousands of GBP but we
