  4. 4. Advising 2.0 and UM <ul><li>We currently use web 2.0 technologies in advising at UM. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>NACADA has noticed that we are among the leaders of large institutions implementing web 2.0 in advising practices. </li></ul></ul>

Undergraduate Advising Center Web 2.0 tools <ul><li>Wake Up Call blog – connected with OneStop as a content channel (via RSS). </li></ul><ul><li>UM Advising Commons – we are very excited about this and NACADA has implied that this site is “one of the best” academic advising blogs in the country. Implementation and marketing of this site is highly encouraged by NACADA. </li></ul><ul><li>Undergraduate Advising Center Facebook Page – President Dennison recently joined us as a fan. </li></ul>

Creating an advising communication plan for campus <ul><li>Everyone involved must be on the same page. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>OSS campus coordination efforts are already underway. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Utilize resources we currently have. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Create and implement Banner Advising Form (electronic student advising record). </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Use Griz Mail for online student appointment scheduling (electronic methods for reporting scheduling activity are possible). </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Use Web 2.0 technologies to aid in campus training and to improve communication (information can easily be repurposed to other sites via RSS). </li></ul></ul>

Using Web 2.0 to improve campus advising communication <ul><li>Use blogs as the central hub for advising information. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>UM Advising Commons is ready to implement as a campus advising hub for students and advisors. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Use blogs and/or wikis to aid in training campus advisors on new technologies. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Instructions on how to use Banner Advising Form </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Instructions on how to use Griz Mail online scheduling </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Any other pertinent advising information </li></ul></ul>
