  • 2.  By the end of this presentation you should be able to answer the following questions.  What types of patients do PTAs serve in the outpatient setting?  What do you know about a PTA’s typical day in the outpatient setting?  What is their annual pay?  What is some demographical information pertaining to Physical Therapist Assistants?  What training/lifetime learning is optional?
  • 3.  Q: What is an outpatient ?  A: An outpatient is a patient who receives treatment at a hospital, at an emergency room or clinic, but is not hospitalized.
  • 4.  The PTA follows a treatment plan developed for the patient and their goals. The PTA follows this plan to alleviate the patient of; movement dysfunction, physical disabilities and pain.  The PTA carries out interventions such as; exercise, stretch, strength training, posture, wheel chair use, body mechanics, posture, ultrasound massage, therapeutic heat and cold, electric current, ultraviolet, traction and activities of daily living.  They document the patients progress and keep in close contact with the Physical Therapist.
