    2. The problem • Pubmed alone indexes approximately 5200 US journals • MEDLINE contains 18+ million citations • About 2000-4000 citations are added each week • 670 943 added in 2007 (NLM data)* *http://www.nlm.nih.gov/bsd/bsd_key.html

    6. What can I do? 1. Table of Contents alerts (PubMed, OvidSP, ISI) 2. Literature alerts (PubMed, OvidSP, ISI) 3. Google alerts 4. Blogs 5. Twitter 6. iTunes U (podcasts) 7. iGoogle 8. Read synthesized literature – Cochrane – ADA EBD

Definition aside – RSS • Really Simple Syndication • Communication medium (like email) • RSS feeds – coupled with client aggregators – provide a way to keep track of frequently updated, web-based content… • …without having to constantly go to individual websites to see if they’ve changed • Updated web content automatically comes to you – Blogs, News, TOCs, Searches, Grant opportunities, etc.
