W-W-W-Wetpaint: The Social WikiI haven’t used Google Sites really, but I have watched my colleagues use it. I look around every now and then, to check out how folks are using it. It seems to be used a lot more for marketing and commercial purposes. The sites people are making there are usually not as engaging as those I am finding in Wetpaint. Google isn’t working as hard as Wetpaint at building a community of users. I did find a couple good examples of Google Sites that are education, use media, and use the interface well. So it is possible to do a nice site in Google Sites, it just seems to be not happening as much. I’m not sure if that is because Google Sites is harder to use or if it is because of the community or something else. The two sites I found that impressed me are:

September 11 Remembered by TwitterThere is so much more, so many more worthy stories that came across Twitter Friday. This was just a very quick selection from early Friday morning. I wanted people to see and think how things might have been different, how we can use social media in the advent of future disasters or social crises (epidemics and such). There is a little discussion going on at the accompanying blogpost. http://etechlib.wordpress.com/2009/09/11/9-11-twitter-the-stories-around-us/2 months ago

Google for Life Science ResearchersSlideshare sometimes has slowdowns - it is a very popular site. This presentation was today picked up by Mashable, which is likely to make it slow loading sometimes. Hope you’d come back to it later. Also, the text of the slides is listed at the bottom of the page.11 months ago
