  2. 2. <ul><li>Approach: </li></ul><ul><li>The University of Michigan-Dearborn (UM-Dearborn) will leverage technology to develop and build a structure for establishing sustainable communities that bridges the virtual and real worlds. </li></ul><ul><li>Using the Second Life environment communities will be on multiple dimensions and levels with the initial application of this approach benefiting food banks in Michigan. </li></ul>

  4. 4. <ul><li>Key Features: </li></ul><ul><li>Student led establishment of a “Sustainable Communities” presence in the virtual world of Second Life® that will facilitate the social networking of organizations with common missions centered around the pillars of community activity that are the focus of the Ford Motor Company Fund. </li></ul><ul><li>This initial presence will be further developed over time, for key community organizations that are consistent with the pillars (e.g., The Henry Ford in the American Heritage wing). </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>Key Features: </li></ul><ul><li>Building of communities on multiple levels (high school, college, community organization, industry) and in multiple dimensions (real and virtual worlds) Food Banks, Agencies, Donors, Volunteers, Funding Sources </li></ul><ul><li>Facilitates the awareness, education, and problem solving around pressing social issues, allowing for the exchange of best practices and development of solutions in the virtual world which can be implemented in the real world. Virtual food drive, process simulation, best practice toolbox </li></ul>
