      • Institutionalized medical care provides a specialized mechanism for shelter, health and medical care of the old aged persons but it is not enough.
      • During pre and post hospice care the immediate family members and relatives provide most of the care.
      • Economic support and emotional care solely comes from the family.
      • Family acts as rehabilitating mechanism.

    5. The Problem Areas
      • The traditional function of family in India is getting transformed.
      • The family members are becoming atomistic.
      • Bonds of reciprocity and mutual obligations are weakening.
      • The burden of change in the family life is getting more sharp and adverse for the old aged person.

    6. Sensitization of Family Members
      • The traditional family care should be given higher precedence.
      • The adult members of the family need to be educated about the health needs of the old aged person.
      • The family should plan much in advance the financial management.
      • The family members should re-learn the traditional values for providing respect and care to the old aged persons.
