Japan-U.S. Science, Technology & Space Applications Program (JUSTSAP) 17th Annual Symposium November 11-15, 2007 Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort Kohala Coast, Big Island of Hawai`i A Message from the Chairman: I am very pleased to announce the 17th Annual JUSTSAP Symposium will be held from November 11-15 at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort on the “Big Island of Hawai`i”. This website contains information on registration, lodging, travel and the conference program, including an optional trip (preceding the symposium) to potential field sites for Hawai`i’s Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems (PISCES), live robotic demonstrations conducted by NASA Ames Research Center (supporting future missions to the moon), and a tour of the Mauna Kea Observatories. Themed “Expanding International Collaboration for Space Exploration”, this year’s symposium will focus on formulating public-private partnerships to catalyze the development and implementation of innovative projects that will support future space exploration and earth observation missions. Five main areas are targeted for discussion, including (1) PISCES, (2) commercial opportunities for the International Space Station (ISS), (3) the development of space-based (solar) power systems, and (4) the design and promotion of advanced satellites for communications and earth observation (to monitor global climate change) and (5) robotic precursor missions to our moon and Mars. The conference will provide a unique opportunity for leading industry executives, government officials, NGO representatives, researchers, and educators to network and initiate collaborative programs, both public and commercial, in areas of strategic importance to NASA, JAXA, and other space-related agencies and institutions worldwide. We invite you to join us and engage in one or more of our project teams to bring these promising programs to fruition. Our JUSTSAP Secretariat would be happy to provide additional information on JUSTSAP and our upcoming symposium, and may be reached in Honolulu at (808) 586-2388 or via e-mail at jcrisafu@dbedt.hawaii.gov.
