  • Survey Tool
Election results are confidential; names can be suppressed in the survey tool if we want.
Election results are securely archived (if we needed to get results from a past election we could do so).
CIS creates and administers election; however we can designate survey managers, so that we can go in locally and look at results, get reports, etc.  Managers can be changed easily every year.
We provide election dates, election slate info to CIS and they build it. Can include links to candidate statements.
    Uses BOL/id password to authenticate
This is the tool used for the Senior Survey.
Cost – same as Election Tool
Downside –the survey tool doesn’t restrict the number of option boxes that a “voter” can select. This is a fundamental design component of the survey tool which couldn't be changed w/o significant work.  That said, we are planning to completely rewrite the survey tool by mid-March 2009, so it's conceivable that this would no longer be an issue by the time you were ready to hold your next election.

    CIS creates and administers election
We provide election dates, election slate info to CIS and they build it.  Can include candidate statements in the system.
CIS then gives us a results report at the end of the election (we can also request a report during the election period – if we have it open for more than 1 day)
    Uses BOL id/password to authenticate
Cost – 1st year no charge; but no guarantee for following years.
    Zoomerang
UCLA Library has a subscription; so no cost to use.
The major downside to this tool, no way to ensure a person from voting multiple times and the results are not strictly confidential.
Do not recommend pursuing this option.
    Surveymonkey
Cost – free account or fee account
Fairly easy to use. Can create “ballot” using a survey template.
Administration of survey is totally in our hands.
Downside – for those where offices where we need to select two – there isn’t a way to limit someone from selecting more than 2 – at least in the free version.
Offers a lot of options for creating, deploying, tabulating the “ballots”
1 person – 1 vote handled by limiting to IP address so not a fool-proof method; can also set a max # of total votes – but again won’t totally insure we don’t get one person voting
    UC Davis is using
    Commercial Software
We can purchase software that will do what we need, but there is the cost and the fact that we will have to administer it locally.

  • My UCLA to access the election or survey. We give the emails and id’s to CIS.
  • Sample ballot using the election tool; when a person logs in from MyUCLAthis is what they will see.
    Link to Candidate statements
Can limit the vote for two to only 2.
  • Candidate Statements page
  • Showing what a Bylaw or other referendum will look like
  • Opportunity to review votes and make changes before casting the final vote.
  • This is what a person will get once they have already voted.
  • Even if you try to vote, the continue button is not active.
  • CIS Survey Tool
Not a pretty as the election tool.
This is what UCLA uses to conduct the Senior Survey.
    Get to it via MyUCLA
