Self-Defensive Gun Use, Houston, Texas, 04/20/2010 American Rifleman Issue: 4/26/2010 Henry Hankston III was in what police believe was a PCP induced rage, when he assaulted and carjacked a man in Houston, Texas. After gaining control of the car, Hankston crashed into another driver, sped off, and then crashed into three more vehicles at the next intersection. Hankston then exited the vehicle and turned his attention to a nearby Metro bus, which he attempted to carjack. As Hankston scuffled with the bus driver, a Right-to-Carry permit holder idling behind the bus noticed the altercation. The permit holder retrieved his gun and pulled Hankston off the bus driver. When Hankston attacked the permit holder, the armed citizen shot Hankston, ending the rampage. Hankston was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive to face a litany of charges. Self-Defensive Gun Use, Tucson, AZ, 03/15/2010 American Rifleman Issue: 3/24/2010 An 82-year-old woman was walking to her car in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart in Sierra Vista, Arizona, when criminal Stephen Prickett confronted her. Prickett told the elderly woman, “This is your day. You are too old to be alive anyway, ” and began beating the woman with her own cane. During the attack, the elderly woman was able to retrieve her handgun from her purse and open fire on the criminal, which alerted bystanders, who came to help. Police arrived on the scene a short time later and took Prickett into custody; he faces several charges, including attempted murder. The woman later explained to local media her support for armed self-defense, particularly for the elderly, and went on to say, “If I go naturally or to a sickness or something, fine. Self-Defensive Gun Use, Miami, FL, 06/02/2010 American Rifleman Issue: 6/14/2010 John Lee was walking home through the parking lot of his apartment complex in Palmetto Bay, Fla., when three armed criminals approached him. One of the criminals pointed a gun at Lee and demanded his wallet. Lee tried to comply, but before he could get his wallet out, the criminal shot him in the hand. Lee, a Right-to-Carry permit holder, drew his gun and fired at the criminals, causing them to flee. Self-Defensive Gun Use, Detroit, MI, 10/21/2010 American Rifleman Issue: 10/21/2010 A man, his girlfriend and the girlfriend’s 5-year-old daughter were travelling in an SUV and pulled into a gas station in Detroit, Mich. around 7 p.m. After the girlfriend went inside the store, leaving her daughter in the vehicle, the man was approached and shot by a carjacker attempting to steal the SUV. The man, a Right-to-Carry permit holder, drew a gun and exchanged gunfire with the carjacker, killing him.
