  • 2. What is Literacy... Traditionally: the ability to read, write, spell, listen, and speak existed autonomously For the 21st Century Learner: "the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate and compute, using printed and written materials" (UNESCO)

  • 4. PicLits What is it? PicLits.com is a creative writing site that matches beautiful images with carefully selected keywords in order to inspire you. The object is to put the right words in the right place and the right order to capture the essence, story, and meaning of the picture.
  • 5. How do you use it? Sign up, it's free Select a picture from their extensive gallery Drop-n-Drag or Freestyle, it's your choice Drop-n-Drag: select from their list of words Freestyle: write what you like Save Share: email, blog, Facebook, MySpace, etc. copy a link or embed code
  • 6. What is its use in the classroom? Encourage student self-expression Poetry metaphors/similies rhyming imagery irony allusion Start a story PicLits even offers suggestions for lesson plans... From the homepage, click on the top tab where it says "Learn It". The lesson plan suggestions are found under "Master It".
