  2. 2. Welcome to CCOC Campus <ul><li>CCOC educates eligible high school and adult students for success in careers and college in a professional, hands-on environment. </li></ul><ul><li>High School Students must be enrolled in 11 th or 12 th grade at a participating high school </li></ul>
  3. 3. ATTENDANCE <ul><li>Absences: Each student is responsible for verification of his or her absences. The instructor should be informed by phone. Absences affect the students credit in the class. Continued absences may result in loss of credit, being placed on an attendance contract, or being removed from the program. </li></ul><ul><li>High school students who must attend home high school testing will not have their grade penalized when they bring a signed, ” home school test authorization form ” supplied by CCOC . Students will not receive attendance hours for testing days missed. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Tardiness <ul><li>Students are expected to be on time everyday. Three unexcused tardies are considered equivalent to one absence . </li></ul><ul><li>Absences must be verified by parent, guardian, medical personnel, or by authorized health care service providers in writing or telephoning the instructor. </li></ul><ul><li>Absences cannot be made up. Three consecutive absences will result in school contact to the home school counselor by teacher or CCOC teacher or staff. </li></ul><ul><li>A total of five absences is cause to send a written notice to the student’s home and the home school counselor . </li></ul>
  5. 5. BREAKS <ul><li>Teachers may allow their class one ten minute break every other day. </li></ul><ul><li>All food and beverages must be consumed in the cafeteria or cafeteria patio area. No food may be consumed in the classroom. </li></ul>
  6. 6. COMPUTER USAGE <ul><li>Computer Usage: All students will be required to sign and abide by a Computer and Network Acceptable Use Contract . This contract states the rules and procedures that a student must follow to use the computer and access the internet. These contracts are distributed by the teacher and require student and parent signatures. This contract will be kept on file in the Student Service office. Improper or inappropriate computer use will result in disciplinary action as outlined in the Student Behavior Policy Disciplinary Action Chart . </li></ul>

Certificates and Communcation Equipment <ul><li>Certificates: Certificates of achievement will be awarded to students who successfully complete one or two year program with an A, B or C grade. </li></ul><ul><li>Communication Equipment: Electronics (cell phone, beepers, pagers, CD players, MP3 players, hand held gaming devices, i-pods, or other similar equipment) must be turned off at ALL times. Repeated offenses may result in item being held for parent to pick up. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Credits <ul><li>Credits are earned through attendance: Units of Credit are granted for hours of attendance at CCOC and issued through the home school. Credits earned may drop due to lack of attendance. Students may earn up to 15 credits per semester or 30 credits of the school year. Students must finish the semester to earn the credits. Units granted are elective credits or a combination of elective and academic credits at the home school discretion. </li></ul><ul><li>Partial Credit: Student must successfully complete the semester to earn credit. Students who enroll after the first three weeks of the semester and no later than seven weeks prior to the end of the semester may earn partial credit. Students may lose credit due to excessive absences. </li></ul><ul><li>No Grade (no credit): A “no grade” (NG) may be issued if a student is enrolled, has attended for less than three weeks and has made no progress toward the objectives of the program. Students who have not attended a minimum of 75 hours will not receive credit. </li></ul>

BEHAVIOR PLOICY & DISCIPLINARY ACTION CHART <ul><li>VIOLATION </li></ul><ul><li>Causing, attempting to cause or threatening to cause physical injury to another person. </li></ul><ul><li>Possessing, selling, or furnishing any firearm, knife, explosive, or other dangerous object. </li></ul><ul><li>Committing or attempting to commit robbery or extortion (including theft of school property). </li></ul><ul><li>Destruction of school or private property (including bus). </li></ul><ul><li>Arson of school or private property. </li></ul><ul><li>Committing or attempting to commit sexual assault or sexual battery or any form of sexual misconduct or harassment. </li></ul><ul><li>Possessing, using, selling or furnishing any illegal drug or drug paraphernalia, or being under the influence of any controlled substance, alcoholic beverage or other intoxicant. </li></ul>

Failing to follow appropriate CCOC dress codes. Chronic tardiness or truancy. Using skateboards, roller blades, scooters or bicycles on campus. Conduct on the School Bus <ul><li>CCOC students will refrain from: </li></ul><ul><li>Exposing arms or body outside windows. </li></ul><ul><li>Boisterous or loud behavior. </li></ul><ul><li>Violation of safety procedures. </li></ul><ul><li>Defacing or destroying bus property. </li></ul><ul><li>Using unauthorized exits. </li></ul><ul><li>Eating or drinking on bus. </li></ul><ul><li>Fighting or scuffling on bus or at bus stop. </li></ul><ul><li>Refusing to obey driver or threatening driver. </li></ul><ul><li>Smoking. </li></ul><ul><li>Spitting or throwing objects on, at, or out of the bus. </li></ul><ul><li>Using profanity/indecent language or obscene gestures. </li></ul><ul><li>Refusing to remain seated while bus is in motion. </li></ul><ul><li>Using cigarette lighter. Striking matches </li></ul><ul><li>Showing improper ID when requested. </li></ul><ul><li>Riding bus after receiving a bus suspension. </li></ul><ul><li>Setting fires. </li></ul><ul><li>Other. </li></ul>
  13. 13. Any CCOC Student committing any of the infarctions listed will be given: <ul><li>First Incident: WARNING OR POSSIBLE SUSPENSION. </li></ul><ul><li>Second Incident: WARNING OR SUSPENSION. </li></ul><ul><li>Third Incident: BUS PRIVILEGE SUSPENDED (pending parent conference) </li></ul>
  14. 14. DRESS CODE: The dress code is enforced anytime students are on campus and on the bus. Automotive careers classes have a designated uniform. <ul><li>Clothes will be clean, hemmed, and free of holes. </li></ul><ul><li>Students may not wear clothing more than one size larger or smaller </li></ul><ul><li>All pants must be worn at the waist and provide full coverage of underwear. No sagging pants. No hip huggers. </li></ul><ul><li>Shorts and skirts must be no shorter than mid thigh when seated. Slits in skirts must be no higher than the acceptable skirt/short length. </li></ul><ul><li>All students must wear tops conforming to standards of employment for their instructional area. In addition shoulder straps or sleeveless blouses must be no shorter than the edge of the shoulder and must provide full coverage of undergarments. Tank tops, halter tops, narrow straps, mid-drift tops, and low cut tops are prohibited. Torsos will be covered at all times ; see through clothes or pajamas are not allowed. </li></ul><ul><li>Gang affiliated clothing or professional sports are not allowed. </li></ul><ul><li>Graphics on clothing and accessories in the form of statements or pictures that are offensive in nature are not allowed (references to gang affiliation, drugs, violence, alcohol or sexually suggestive). </li></ul><ul><li>Bare feet and house slippers are not allowed. Sandals are acceptable when the classroom does not require other footwear for safety reasons. </li></ul><ul><li>No head coverings (hats, hoods) are allowed in common areas of campus. Head coverings for religious purposes are allowed. </li></ul>
  15. 15. <ul><li>Drills & Emergency Procedures </li></ul><ul><li>Drills will be conducted periodically throughout the school year. All students and visitors (youth and adult) are required to participate in these drills to ensure safety in the even of an actual emergency. </li></ul><ul><li>In the event of an actual natural disaster or other emergency situation, students may be required to stay on the CCOC campus longer than their scheduled class time. All students must be released bu school staff before they may leave campus. Minors may be released with parental permission only </li></ul><ul><li>Driving & Parking </li></ul><ul><li>Students wishing to park on campus must obtain a parking sticker and display it in the front window of the vehicle. </li></ul><ul><li>Driving Permit and Sticker Request form is available through instructors or the Student Services office. </li></ul><ul><li>No student parking is allowed in the visitor spaces, red zones, or bus circle at any time. </li></ul><ul><li>Driving privileges may be revoked for unsafe driving practices or violation of school rules. </li></ul>
  16. 16. Enrollment Procedure <ul><li>Home high school district counselors are responsible for enrolling and counseling students for all CCOC programs. Course descriptions are available through counselors or </li></ul><ul><li>Through the Student Services office at CCOC to assist students in selecting a course of study. </li></ul><ul><li>High School student have priority in all CCOC Day programs. Each participating district has an alloted number of spaces available. Unfilled spaces are open to all participating districts on a “first-come” basis. Once all high school students are enrolled, the remaining spaces are open to adult registration. </li></ul><ul><li>If a program becomes full, a waiting list is established. Most classes are “open-entry” which allows available spaces to be filled throughout the semester for full or partial credit. Credit issued will depend on hours attended. </li></ul><ul><li>The CCOC Program Representatives are available to interested students and parents for tours of the campus. A Student Advisor is also available to assist students with counseling issues. </li></ul>

GRADES Letter grades are issued based on three criteria: Technical, Academic and Employability skills. <ul><li>Technical: Demonstration of competency & skills required to perform the various tasks that define a trade, business or industry. </li></ul><ul><li>Academic: Student ability to demonstrate and express the course specific knowledge base through written expression, analytical choices, evaluations, and mathematical computations as exhibited via subjective and objective assessments. </li></ul><ul><li>Employability: Those transferable characteristics or traits that will help ensure success in any workplace and aid in securing and maintaining employment. </li></ul><ul><li>Grades are issued every six weeks and are reported to the student and their home school. Students who receive a “D” grade at the end of the semester may not transfer to another class and may not continue in their existing CCOC class without a parent conference and an improvement plan. </li></ul><ul><li>* Students who receive an “F” grade at the end of the semester may not continue at CCOC. </li></ul>

Grades Continued <ul><li>Grades for adult students will be provided directly to the student through progress reports every six weeks. </li></ul><ul><li>“ A” Exceptional skill development in Technical, Academic and Employability criteria. The student demonstrates excellent potential for employment. </li></ul><ul><li>“ B” Above average skill development In the Technical, Academic and Employability criteria. The student demonstrated good potential for employment. </li></ul><ul><li>“ C” Average skill development in the Technical, Academic and Employability criteria. The student demonstrates limited potential for employment. </li></ul><ul><li>“ D” Poor skill development in the Technical, Academic and Employability criteria. The student does not demonstrate potential for employment. </li></ul><ul><li>“ F” Unsatisfactory skill development in the Technical, Academic and Employability criteria. </li></ul><ul><li>An improvement plan will identify what criteria a student must successfully achieve in order to succeed 2 nd semester. The student, parent, counselor, and teacher must sign this plan. Not meeting these expectations may result in the student being dropped from CCOC </li></ul>
  19. 19. Progress reports <ul><li>Progress reports will be sent to both the home high school and the student’s parent or guardian for any student whose grade has dropped one full letter grade, is performing unsatisfactorily or is in danger of failing. </li></ul>
  20. 20. <ul><li>Leaving Campus: CCOC is a closed campus. Students may not leave campus during class hours without parental or office permission. Capitol High students may not leave campus between morning and afternoon sessions. </li></ul><ul><li>Field Trips: Most CCOC field trips will occur within regular class hours. Teachers will distribute permission slips, which must be returned with parent/guardian signatures. Field trips which extend beyond regular class hours will require home school permission as well. This permission form will remain on file in the Student Services office </li></ul><ul><li>Lockers: Some classes will offer lockers for personal storage at no cost. These lockers are to be locked with CCOC issued locks only. These lockers are considered CCOC property and are subject to search by school staff at any time. </li></ul><ul><li>Lost & Found: The CCOC lost and found is located in the Student Services office, Room 803. Items left for more than one semester will be donated to a local charity or discarded. </li></ul>
