take the audience through a rollercoaster of emotions.
The main plot usually in a romantic film is the characters
usually search for love or make a love story
The ending of a romantic film is usually emotionally
satisfying.
3. CODES AND CONVENTIONS OF ROMANTIC FILM
A romantic film usually includes relationship,
sexuality and gender
Aimed at a female audience
‘boy meets girl’- This usually happens in a romantic
movie with a happy ending
The audience can relate to the characters
Beach and restaurants are considered to be
romantic places. Romantic films usually take place
in these locations
Flowers, presents, and chocolates are some of the
main props that are used.
4. WHY WE CHOSE ROMANCE
Before we came up with our idea we decided that we will
aim our short film towards 12-28 year olds. This is one of
the reasons why we chose romance as romance is a
popular genre amongst them. Relationships and love is
something our target audience could relate to therefore
romance is the best genre to do for our film. We also
haven’t made a romantic film before therefore we wanted
to try something new.
5. EXAMPLES OF ROMANTIC FILMS
Dear John is a romantic movie about two characters
John and Savannah. John is home on a two week
leave from Germany. He falls in love with Savannah at
first sight. Savannah is a college student who is on a
spring break and is helping build a house where John
decides to help her. As they spend more time together
Savannah falls deeply in love with John. As she is
about to go back to college, she promises to write
John overseas during the next 12-months until he
returns to her after completing his enlistment.
The vow is a romantic movie where a husband (Leo)
tries to win back his wife heart (Paige) after she loses
her memory in a car accident.
