Intro.Structure.Plate Tect Bv Intro.Structure.Plate Tect Bv Presentation Transcript

  • GCSE – Introduction to Plate Tectonics
  • What can you remember?
    • Objectives of lesson today:
    • To revisit key terms from Violent Earth unit of work.
    • Know 4 main layers of the Earth
    • To recognise the location of the major plate boundaries and describe the process that causes plates to move.
    • To understand and begin to explain the processes occurring at a destructive plate boundary
Key concept : The Earth’s crust is unstable, especially at plate margins
  • What is the link?
  • Your turn
    • Distribution of plate boundaries
    • Take your copy of the world map showing information relating to plate boundaries
    • Stick it in the middle of a double page
    • In pencil, annotate the map to show 10 pieces of information shown.
    • Share your notes with your neighbour….
    • Exam question …. Describe and explain the distribution of earthquakes
    • √ ? x
  •
  •
  • How do plates move? Plates consist of two types of crust ….. The plates float ….. Heat from ….. convection currents Few centimetres each year. Plates may move in 3 directions …… Continental crust Oceanic crust
  • What have I learnt? Next lesson: constructive boundaries …. Why is the UK moving further away from USA?
    • Objectives of lesson today:
    • To revisit key terms from Violent Earth unit of work.
    • Know 4 main layers of the Earth
    • To recognise the location of the major plate boundaries and describe the process that causes plates to move To understand and begin to explain the processes occurring at a destructive plate boundary
  • Homework
    • To copy level achieved and development targets from yr 8 reports onto target sheet in Ex books
    • Obtain coloured picture showing 4 layers of earth and stick in ex book
    • Learn glossary of key words: Continental plate, oceanic plate, crust, mantle, inner core, outer core, subduction zone, destructive plate boundary, convection currents, ocean trench to be found on the blog . http://tudorgeogclass2011.blogspot.com
