JISC and other funding sources <ul><li>The mission of the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) is to provide world-class leadership in the innovative use of ICT to support education and research. </li></ul><ul><li>JISC funds a national services portfolio, including JANET, and a range of programmes and projects. Annual budget is in excess of £45m. </li></ul><ul><li>Regular calls for e-learning project proposals are issued. SMU has been involved in a number of bids. </li></ul><ul><li>Success is significantly enhanced by track record and being a recognized contributor in the community of practice </li></ul><ul><li>Other sources: EU, Hewlett Foundation, FForwm, HEFCW … </li></ul>

What it means for SMU <ul><li>Web based resources and services will become a very important component of future educational delivery </li></ul><ul><li>We are at a transitional stage where neither the technology nor the pedagogy are stabilised or reconciled </li></ul><ul><li>However, when it happens it is likely to take institutions by surprise if they are not aware and prepared </li></ul><ul><li>SMU needs to be a member of the community of practice </li></ul><ul><li>Better still if it were a leader within that community of practice </li></ul>
