Slide 1: Session 3 : WiMAX WiMAX network components Radio Network and Capacity Planning forum E. Grenier December 8 - 9, 2005 Singapore Day 2
Slide 2: WiMAX network components The WiMAX Base Station (BS) in ICS telecom • General parameters • Sectorization aspects • Radiation pattern The WiMAX Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) in ICS telecom • General parameters • Radiation patterns The link between the CPE and its parent BS • Linkage regarding to the power recieved • Linkage regarding to the traffic • Linkage regarding to the interference
Slide 3: WiMAX network components The WiMAX Base Station
Slide 4: WiMAX network components The WiMAX Base Station Nominal power General parameters Each antenna can be configured using individual parameters Dynamic : for power control Gain : different for the UL and the DL (sub-channelization) Losses : according to the linear loss of the cable + connector loss Radiated power Frequency : main transmitting frequency Antenna height in meters AGL or ARL Bandwidth : for the interference analysis (channel overlap)
Slide 5: WiMAX network components The WiMAX Base Station Sectorization aspects The user has full control on the number of sectors used by the Base Station. They can be co- localized or splitted on the rooftop.
Slide 6: WiMAX network components The WiMAX Base Station Radiation pattern The antenna can be configured using: • H and a V pattern/sector • A full 3D pattern/sector • A full 3D pattern per antenna (not advised for WiMAX planning purposes)
Slide 7: WiMAX network components The WiMAX CPE • Fixed service • Nomadic service • (Mobile service)
Slide 8: WiMAX network components The WiMAX CPE How to model the CPE ? • On a macro-scale point of view using its sensitivity and gain for the coverage calculation • On a ponctual point of view using its individual technical parameters
Slide 9: WiMAX network components The WiMAX CPE CPE Radiation pattern The pattern helps to fight interference and to optimize the •It can be spectrum directive (CPE) or not • It can be adaptive or not
Slide 10: WiMAX network components The link between the BS and the CPE (1/3) The connectivity • Coverage mode • Point to Multipoint mode
Slide 11: WiMAX network components The link between the BS and the CPE (2/3) Gross achievable Bit Rate Traffic ? • Coverage mode • Point to Multipoint mode
Slide 12: WiMAX network components The link between the BS and the CPE (3/3) Interference ? • Coverage mode • Point to Multipoint mode
Slide 13: WiMAX network components Conclusion ICS telecom allows the input of individual technical parameters for the WiMAX Base Station, and the WiMAX CPE as well. It allows the simulation of different equipement manufacturers, for comparison purposes. The analysis can be performed in coverage mode, or in ponctual mode. Select the best equipment according to needs and the simulation in the planning tool !
