1. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT
TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF
CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?
Media evaluation
2. Construction of magazine
During the construction of this product I
have developed my understanding on
certain softwares such as photoshop as I
have never used it before.
I constructed the front cover, contents
page and double page spread on
Microsoft publisher, I am very familiar
with Microsoft publisher as I have used it
within my other subjects from GCSEs
such as ICT and creative and media
diploma, though there was the option of
constructing these pages on photoshop I
decided to use publisher as it was
something I definitely know how to use.
3. Photographs
The photographs I used within my Medium
magazine, ensuring that the images
would be appropriate and usable I close up
planned the location and props in
advance, this helped me construct the
shot as and saved time on the day I
took the photos as I did not have to
improvise on what I think would look
best for the magazine. From the
research I completed on existing music
magazines, the most commonly used
shot was a medium close-up, I
achieved this shot by using the zoom
on my camera, but as not all the photos
were close enough I was able to use
Photoshop to achieve the shot-distance Medium
I wanted. Many of the shots did not
need artificial colour alteration except close up
from the one used on the feature page,
I changed the featured image from
colour to a grey scale.
4. Photographs
In total I took approximately 200 photos, only 8
were used within my final draft of the
magazine. By taking so many photographs
gave me more options for when I was editing
the different pages; it also helped me practice
on which angles would look best.
7. Mise-en-scene
I made a clear decision on the costume and
make up used within the shots, as I wanted it
to be something the artist would wear during
the performance. This narrowed the choices to
clothing items common within the artists of this
genre such as t-shirt and jeans. I decided to
use a microphone and a guitar as props within
the photos as it was popular within the existing
magazines, also as it is not an actual music
artist on the front cover, the props make it
more obvious that it is a music magazine.
8. Mise-en-scene
Existing rock music magazine that used
similar props to the ones I used in my own
magazine.
9. Photoshop
I used the crop tool on
Photoshop to make the central
image on the front cover the main
focus of the page; this makes the
person within the image stand
out and eye catching instead of
having a lot of blank space
around. I used photoshop to cut
out the background very
precisely to give my magazine a
more professional appearance by
using the magic eraser and
eraser for the sections that it
missed out. I also used
photoshop to create other image
inserts used within the magazine,
I learnt these skills from the
Internet tutorials following step by
step to get the results I wanted.
