OpenStack's vision in Vietnam  The OpenStack Open Source Cloud Mission: to produce the ubiquitous Open Source Cloud Computing platform that will meet the needs of public and private clouds regardless of size, by being simple to implement and massively scalable. To power Vietnam economy growth with Open Source OpenStack cloud technologies that Vietnamese can openly collaborate and innovate with global partners and friends. 11/15/13 4

  • 7. Culture   This is not just about technologies, it’s an attempt to build a community in Vietnam that has no difference from the world in terms of mission, spirit and practice. Vietnam OpenStack Ho Chi Minh City Hence the Culture challenges:  Trust: who reach out first.  Collaboration: Open >< Closed  Innovation: Strategic & Disruptive >< Tactical & Practical  Motivation: from with-in >< commercials driven 11/15/13 7
  • 8. How to sustain and growth   Community governance: DTT hands over the community to run by itself ( In progress), More meetups, new website. Gain more mindshare: Work with Influencers to ensure the community continued to gain recognition: 1. Government agencies: outreach to all CIOs, CTOs 2. Association: join various association: VFOSSA, HCA, DSA … 3. Users out reach:  Success stories:   2 government agencies – production before Atlanta Summit   2 ISP case studies – in progress, production before Atlanta Summit 2 Financial & enterprises case studies – to be done Public Test Cloud:   The first OpenStack test cloud to be launched in Q1, 2014 Universities and students:  Develop a Vietnamese training curriculumn  More meet ups in university 11/15/13 8

Some recommendations The board to set some strategy for developing countries that:  Take into account of delayed awareness versus commercials driven forces  Set to solve some big practical problem for developing countries  Help to spread the OpenStack culture, multiply and adapting to local culture  Have someone dedicated for this. The user committee / marketing to have some plan for: Gaining mindshare from potential users at developing countries Survey why users leave OpenStack for others Websites in other languages The community in general to set some outreach program for developing countries by: Have a volunteers hub World tour of OpenStack VIPs 11/15/13 9
