  1. SERVANT LEADERSHIP
    // yis // 071909 //
  2. The servant-leader
    is servant first.
    It begins with the natural feeling that one want to serve.
    Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead.
  3. Do those served grow as persons??
    Do they, while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants ??
  4. // yis // 071909 //
    LIVE
    We must survive in our body
    LOVE
    We must relate to others
    LEGACY
    We must also have value, make difference
    LEARN
    We must grow, develop, & use our talents
    4 NEEDS
  5. Servitude implies being in a one down position to another person and giving from a place of need to or have to
    The shear joy of giving
    True service stems from a desire to give from the heart. It is freely shared without any expectation for something in return
    // yis // 071909 //
  6. The choice to serve is not an action in the normal sense
    “ It's not something you do, but an expression of your being."
    // yis // 071909 //
  7. 10 CHARACTERISTIC

    Listen receptively to what is being said (and not said)
    Listen intently to others
    seeking to understand what one’s body, spirit, and mind are communicating
    // yis // 071909 //
  9. Identifies with the concerns of others so as to better understand and lead
    Empathy
    Assumes the good intentions of coworkers and does not reject them as people, even while refusing to accept their behavior or performance
    People need to be accepted and recognized for their special unique spirits

  11. // yis // 071909 //
    Building Community
    Not by mass movements, but by each servant leader demonstrating his own unlimited liability for a quite specific community-related group
  12. // yis // 071909 //
    seek to convince and not pull rank
    - to go ahead and show the way
