  3. 3. Birthplace and Date <ul><li>Genghis Kahn also known as Temujin was born between the years of 1162 to 1167. There are many opinions of when he was born because there is no accurate written history of the Mongols. What we know comes from the songs that mothers sang to their children. </li></ul><ul><li>Temujin was born in the city of Khenti Aimag on the banks of the river Onon in Mongolia. </li></ul>
  4. 4. His Parents <ul><li>Genghis Khan’s father, Yesukhei, was born between 1140 and 1145. He was a tribal chief of the Kiyad. His mother, Hoelun, belonged to the Olkhunut tribe which was a nomad tribe. </li></ul>This is what Yesukhei may have looked like. This is what Hoelun may have looked like.
  5. 5. Brothers and Sisters <ul><li>Temujin had three brothers </li></ul><ul><li>Khasar, </li></ul><ul><li>Khajiun </li></ul><ul><li>and Tenuge. </li></ul><ul><li>He also had two half brothers Bekter and Belgutei and one sister Temulen. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Early Education <ul><li>After doing a lot of research there does not seem to be any information about Genghis Khans early education. The only thing we do know is that he learned from the things he saw in wars. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Adult Life / Education <ul><li>It does not seem that Genghis Khan went to regular school. He was recognized as a genius and learned most of his knowledge from watching life and wars. Taught by his mother, he became leader of his family and learned how to care for and protect others which would later be important for controlling an empire. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Spouse and Children <ul><li>His wife’s name was Borte and his sons were Jochi, Chagatai, Ogedei and Tolui. He had many other children with his other wives but they were not included in the history of his life. </li></ul>Ogedei Khan
  9. 9. Where He Lived <ul><li>Genghis lived all around Mongolia and most likely lived in a Yurt just like this one. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Occupations <ul><li>Genghis Khan was a tribal leader, fighter and a king of the Mongolian nation. He was known as a great warrior and defeated many countries. </li></ul>
  11. 11. Personality Traits <ul><li>Genghis Khan was a fierce warrior who defeated many lands. He was also very kind and built schools and cities and shared his wealth with his people. </li></ul>
  12. 12. Why he is remembered <ul><li>Genghis Khan is remembered for all the great things that he did and because he was very vicious in war. He was also great ruler and defeated many countries and their rulers so that he would the ruler of them all. </li></ul>
  13. 13. Monuments <ul><li>Genghis Khan is remembered by people who called themselves his children. His name is on many products, streets and buldings. His face is on the largest denomination of Mongolian money as well as others. One of Mongolia’s airports is named “Chinggis Khaan International Airport ”. He has also been ranked 29 th on a list of the worlds most influential people. </li></ul>
  14. 14. Other information <ul><li>Genghis Khan was a very spiritual man and he let the people in his nations keep their own religions. He also believed that if you want to conquer a nation you must conquer the hearts of its people. Before battle Genghis Khan would go to the top of a mountain and pray and would say that he heard the voice of God speaking to him. In 2006 his face was put on the side of a mountain. </li></ul>
  15. 15. My Opinion <ul><li>My opinion of Genghis Khan is that he was a very fierce warrior, but on the other hand he was also a very kind person. I like the way he accomplished what he wanted to do because he did it in a good way and his people liked him very much. </li></ul>
