  • 1. Trying to Save Our Marriage - 3 Things You Want to Avoid When Saving Your Marriage http://www.marriage-sherpa.info When you took your vows with the person you had so fallen in love with, the thought never entered your mind that you would end up where you are today. “What happened here,” you may be asking yourself? “How did I end up in this place where now I am trying to save our marriage?”
  • 2. It is certainly an emotionally draining period in one’s life, and one that no-one ever wants to go through. When you committed to marriage in the first place, you intended for it to be a lifelong relationship. And yet, if you are reading this article today, you find that the love and affection that existed earlier in your marriage has deteriorated. You may be thinking to yourself, “is this the same person I fell so madly in love with?”

When you committed to marriage in the first place, you intended for it to be a lifelong relationship. And yet, if you are reading this article today, you find that the love and affection that existed earlier in your marriage has deteriorated. You may be thinking to yourself, “is this the same person I fell so madly in love with?” If you are seeking help in trying to save your marriage, the chances are high that divorce has at least been brought up between you and your spouse. Perhaps things are a bit testy and you find that your communication has broken down to nothing more than arguments and yelling. Or you may find yourselves in a place where there simply is no talking between the two of you at all.
  • 4. Often times when a marriage has reached its breaking point, infidelity or emotional affairs have begun taking place. Your spouse may be confiding his or her most intimate thoughts with another. You may be noticing them spending more and more time on the computer or working longer hours than usual. Or perhaps you have outright caught them in an affair, yet are still willing to make the effort to save your marriage.

Your spouse may be confiding his or her most intimate thoughts with another. You may be noticing them spending more and more time on the computer or working longer hours than usual. Or perhaps you have outright caught them in an affair, yet are still willing to make the effort to save your marriage. In whatever stage you find your relationship at when trying to save your marriage, there are steps that can be applied to help. I will direct you to resources in that vein here shortly. But first here today, let’s take a look at a few things you will want to avoid to prevent making things worse.
  • 6. Avoid Trying to Get Your Spouse to Change Their Ways Telling your spouse what they are doing wrong and what they need to change will almost always end up making things worse and typically all it will do is lead to yet another argument. The last thing your spouse wants to hear from you right now is that it is all their fault for things being the way that they presently are in your marriage.
  • 7. Avoid Trying to Manipulate Your Spouse You may think that you can simply dictate to your spouse what will happen next and can manipulate them to prevent divorce and save your marriage. This never works. Manipulation often is just a thinly disguised attempt at asserting control in the relationship and a battle of who has the most influence over the relationship is sure to ensue. You must avoid the urge to assert yourself in this manner.
  • 8. Avoid Trying to Gain Sympathy from Your Spouse Breaking down, sobbing, ending up in tears accomplishes nothing and often times your spouse will simply be turned off by that happening. Sympathy really is not what you are looking for at this point anyway, at least not from your spouse. What you really require from your spouse at this point is love and respect. Often times if your spouse is considering divorce, they have emotionally checked out by this time, anyway, so they often are not as sensitive to your feelings as they were when your marriage was healthier. Avoiding these three things will greatly improve your chances and indeed remove some obstacles from your path as you are trying to save your marriage.
  • 9. Taylor Ranidae is passionate about love and relationships and writes articles focusing on helping people save their relationships and marriages. Her articles are a must read for anyone who is looking to either salvage or further enhance their relationship. These are just a few quick suggestions to help when you are thinking to yourself, “I am trying to save our marriage ”.
