Through his works, he framed the African-American experience, the most famous of which is the Middle Passage . He was also celebrated as an author, teacher, and cultural activist. Feelings was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. . He attended the School of the Visual Arts and later lived in Ghana and Guyana .
