    9. MMO iPhone App join the watchmen universe
    10. Issues
      • We had six months to make a real MMO, and MMO’s can take between 2 and 4 years to develop
      • Today it easy for a casual MMO to cost in excess of $5MM without hardware infrastructure, and we had less than $1MM to spend
      • Most MMO’s have months of beta testing with thousands of people, and we were not allowed to have a beta of more than 60 people
      • We had to support back end costs and did wanted to avoid immediate hardware and maintence costs
      • iPhone hardware limitations
      • Needed storage space for rendered characters
    11. Solution
      • We had our cloud toolset in development
      • We modified our engine for gesture based platforms
      • We spent the first couple of months heavily bulking up our development environment
      • We decided to go with AWS earlier than we originally planned
      • As users scale so did we, and we pay for what we use
      • Serverside rendering allowed us to render crowds of people and sidestep hardware limitations
      • S3 and CloudFront provided a home and optimized delivery platform for rendered characters
      • Taimur Rashid is a hero!
