  • 1. February 2014 THE{FULL}LIFE TOUCHMARK AT WEDGEWOOD Embracing cold winter weather The cabin-fever bash kicked off with residents and team members participating in a friendly Road Hockey game. Tom McClocklin, who was a professional basketball referee, refereed the game. Partygoers also relaxed on “The Ice Berg” winter patio area while enjoying signature drinks made by Bacardi Canada Representative Renee McEachern. Glen Anderson, who manages Touchmark’s Maintenance Department, demonstrated snow sculpting, and musical guests Plamondon performed. “This event hooked into Edmonton’s For the Love of Winter strategy,” says Brenda Edmonds, director of Touchmark’s Full Life Wellness & Life Enrichment Program. “As the city is a winter city for six months of the year, it makes sense to encourage all residents to enjoy the great outdoors!” (Read more about the city’s For the Love of Winter at http://www.edmonton.ca/city_ government/initiatives_innovation/wintercitystrategy.aspx.) The next winter activity? People can add a boost to their winter workout with Fitness Instructor Lenka Makarian, who will kick off the outdoor winter walking program. Watch the calendar for more details or talk with a Full Life team member to sign up. Resident Solveig Mathieson, 87, has embraced a love of winter and enjoys cross-country skiing around the Touchmark community. Watch next month’s newsletter for photos of the cabin-fever bash.

  • 3. Young violinist extraordinaire shares his love of music Nine-year-old fiddle phenom Jack Forestier (accompanied by his parents, Michel and Marie Forestier) entertained a crowd at Touchmark. “After seeing Jack perform at a fundraiser, I wanted him to come here. I used to play violin myself, so when I saw such a vibrant little guy play so well at such a young age … it was astounding,” says resident Carol Martin. Accomplished in both classical and fiddle styles, Jack demonstrated his string skills during an entertaining afternoon. Enjoying your {FULL} Life Touchmark is a community of friends celebrating and living the Full Life—and enjoying the benefits of services and amenitites. We invite you to visit and learn more about what we call the {FULL} Life! Jack fiddled his way into Canadians’ hearts and became a semifinalist on the television show Canada’s Got Talent. Jack’s passion for performing started at a young age thanks to his parents—Michel, a classical guitarist, and Marie, a violinist. It was Marie who began teaching Jack to play at just two years old. Matters of the heart Marge Coalman, EdD Vice President of Wellness & Programs February is a perfect time to soak up heart-filled sentiments. Both physical and spiritual.
