    • EVENT{FULL} Monthly updates from your {FULL} Life community Greetings from the 18th century! For the final session of Touchmark’s US Constitution class, (from left) James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and John Adams shared their insights with a packed house. The four men also posed with an Uncle Sam carving by Spokane resident Howard Jensen. (Team members Bret Cope played Madison, Chet Roshetko was Jefferson, Jeff Bair played Franklin, and Jeff Wolpert became Adams). Executive Director Jeff Bair has been teaching the popular class, which follows a series created by Hillsdale College. TOUCHMARK ON SOUTH HILL Issue 12, 2013 | page 1 October 2011
    • Marge Coalman, EdD Vice President of Wellness & Programs Celebrating the possibilities “‘Why not’ is a slogan for an interesting life.” – Mason Cooley, professor and aphorist Year’s end brings a time for reflection and shared memories. All of the holidays and holy days for people of faith have celebratory events and traditions. Often the gifts of the spirit, friendships, family relationships, victories, and losses are remembered. As 2014 approaches, many ponder, “What’s next?” Perhaps the better question is, “Why not?” Things on the bucket list might be due for a move to the action list. Healthy aging means nurturing curiosity, passion, and imagination. Lifelong learning, community service, volunteerism, adventures, and new beginnings are characteristics of Touchmark champions. To learn more about champions and share your individual talents, strengths, and skills, contact a member of the Full Life team. Continuing to grow and succeed in self-determined goals is the essence of active aging. TOUCHMARK ON SOUTH HILL Issue 12, 2013 | page 2
    • Snapshots show off fall fun The annual Harvest Festival has grown to more than 450 children! Resident volunteers greeted the families at the door and directed them to the first stop, the spooky hallway. The evening included games, prizes, and, of course, treats. • Touchmark’s Giant Pumpkin Challenge The Garden Club has planted giant pumpkin seeds for three years. This year, the plant took off. Everyone guessed its weight, and Jen Wagner (pictured) won with a guess of 47 pounds. The pumpkin’s actual size: 49 pounds. “We hope to some day enter the pumpkin into the Spokane Interstate Fair,” says Betty Doerschlag, Life Enrichment/Wellness director. “We’re already ready for next year. When we carved this pumpkin, we saved and dried the seeds.” EVENT HIGHLIGHTS Contact a Full Life team member for additional details, including registration, transportation information, and participation requirements.
