  • Ballad of Birmingham was written in response to the bombing of the Sixteenth Street Church. The bombing killed four innocent girls.
  • George was a poem inspired by a man that befriended Randall when he worked at Ford Motor Company.
  • In 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. The poem was written because Jacqueline Kennedy was dressed in a pink wool suit.

    • 2. Dudley Randall
      He was born in 1914. He is well known for the poetry he has written. The three that I remember the most are: Ballad of Birmingham, Dressed All in Pink and George.
    • 3. Dudley Randall wrote the poem
      Ballad Of Birmingham- a poem written about four innocent girls that were killed as a result of the bombing on the Sixteenth Street Church.

      Sixteenth Street church was bombed.
      The bombing killed four innocent girls.
    • 5. A black owned company:
      Dudley Randall began a publishing company called Broadside Press. It became a famous outlet for many black poets.
    • 6. George
      Randall became friends with a man named George.
      RANDALL AND GEORGE MET AT FORD MOTOR COMPANY.
      After he was inspired by this man, he honored him with a poem he called “George”
    • 7. Dressed All in Pink
      A picture of John and Jacqueline Kennedy getting off of the plane in November 1963.
    • 8. Dressed All In Pink
      This poem was inspired by the tragic event that happened in November 1963.
      A poem written after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. He called it Dressed All in Pink because Jacqueline Kennedy was dressed in a wool pink suit. He later described the suit as dark red.

      Dudley Randall lived in a time when tragic events among blacks were on the rise. He took these tragic events and put them onto paper. He is known for his many great poems because of this.
