PHYSICAL EDUCATION & SPORTS IN ARMENIAArmenia is one of the most ancient countries of the world, which hasrich culture and history. It is historical motherland of Armenians.Armenia lies in the northeastern part of the Armenian plateaubetween Caucasus and Asia Minor. The history of Armenian ancestorsgoes back to the history of primitive man (about 1,5 - 1 million yearsago). The sports programs organized during the pagan celebrationshad much in common with programs of ancient Greek OlympicGames. Thanks to it Armenian athletes had an opportunity toparticipate in Olympic Games. It is known that Armenian king Trdat IIIArshakuni became the winner of 265th Olympic Games in 281.During his reign in 301 Christianity was adopted as state religion inArmenia. Trdat III Arshakuni Armenian king Varazdat Arshakunibecame the champion in boxing at 291st Olympic Games held in 385.

Armenian sportsmen have been taking part in the Olympic Games since 1952. Armenia will beintroduced by Norayr Bakhtamyan(shooting), Andranik Hakobyan(boxing), Arsen Juflakyan (Greco-Roman wrestle), Mihran Jaburyan(free wrestle), Artur Davtyan (sports gymnastics).These sportsmen have had a number of successes during worldchampionships and international competition and so they won theright to participate in the Olympic Games. There will be elevencomprised sportsmen, who havent hurt, in excellent sportivecondition in the Armenian delegation.
