Towards a Semantic Infrastructure for Learning, Education and Training? - Presentation Transcript

    1. CETIS 2007 Conference Semantics A Semantic Infrastructure for Learning, Education and Training by Tore Hoel Oslo University College/eStandard Vicechair CEN/ISSS WS-LT
    2. Slow uptake - great potentials
    3. Why so slow?
      • For organisational & semantical interoperability we need trust
        • Why are not vocabularies reused more often?
      • RDF is easy to explain to machines
      • Topic Maps is easy to explain to humans
        • But, it does not help much when we lack...
      • Tools and demonstrators
    4. Towards an infrastructure http://bak.udir.no http://bak.kuling.net

      • The scope determines the view.
      • Three kinds of abstraction:
      • Horizontal
      • Vertical
      • Structural
    12. Conclusions
      • Need for some simple recommendations how to facilitate exchange of ontologies, vocabularies etc.
      • Identifiers, identifiers, identifiers – how do we create the semantic hub?
      • Demonstrate the tools – and make them known!
    13. Thanks!
      • Thanks to
        • Dino Karabeg, for the use of his slides
        • Tommy Nordeng, for discussions
