Learn 2 Breakdance - Learning To Breakdance - Presentation Transcript

190500Breakdancing, also known as breaking, b-boying, or b-girling, is considered as one of the significant elements that make up hip hop culture. This street dance was developed in the 1970s among the African-American and Hispanic youths of South Bronx, New York. There are no set routines or structures in breakdancing. Rather, dancers employ basic moves while embellishing them with more complex styles and power moves. It is highly improvisatory. However, because breakdancing is an athletic form of dance, learning to breakdance may be essential before anyone can engage in this form of dance.

Here are some things that a b-boy or a b-girl should keep in mind:
First is to wear loose and comfortable clothing. Remember that breakdancing requires a lot of squatting and loose-limbed movements. Next is to wear protective gear, especially if you are trying on-the-floor moves for the first time. Third is to practice on a wood floor or mats. Do not do breakdancing on carpet. You need a slick surface that will allow you to glide and spin. Fourth is to do warm ups first. Get your muscles warm and your heart pumping before you begin any serious workout.
Next is to listen to hip hop music in order for you to appreciate breaking more. Then, watch breakdancing videos. And finally, work out on your arms and abs. Do exercises that will help strengthen your biceps, triceps, and abdominal muscle.
Breakdancing has been around long enough. From the time it was developed, it has gained international recognition and has become popular in Europe and Asia. Now, breaking has become institutionalized to a certain degree. Most large to medium-sized cities will have dance studios which offer breakdancing classes, which is not a bad idea. Breakdancing is fun to watch; it may be much more fun to do.
