Transcript

  • 1. 4.4 Objective: Find the slope of a line and interpret slope as rate of change.
  • 2. Slope of a line
  • 3. Find the slope • Rise = 5 • Run = 3 • Slope = 5/3 • Slope is positive since both rise and run are positive. • Positive slope climbs from left to right.
  • 4. Find the slope • Rise – 1 • Run – -2 • Slope = 1/-2 • Slope is negative since rise is positive and run is negative. • Negative slope climbs from right to left.
  • 5. Zero Slope • Horizontal lines have zero slope • 0 rise/run
  • 6. Undefined slope • Vertical lines have undefined slope • Rise/0 run
  • 7. Slope formula • Change in y (rise) over change in x (run)
  • 8. Practice
  • 9. Rate of Change
