    • " Legal Provisions Pertaining to IETF Documents "
      • Completed work on a new policy as requested by the community in RFC5377:
      • Advice to the Trustees of the IETF Trust on Rights to Be Granted in IETF Documents
      • Set the effective date of the new policy to be November 10th, to coincide with the publication of RFC5377 & RFC5378: Rights Contributors Provide to the IETF Trust
      • Published the "Legal Provisions" policy:
        • http:// trustee.ietf.org /license-info/
  • 4. IETF Trust Actions since Dublin (2)
    • Implementation of the new policy:
      • Announced the publication of RFC5377, RFC5378 and the "Legal Provisions" in:
        • New Boilerplate Text Required for all new Submissions to IETF
      • Approved a transition plan for boilerplate text in new submissions:
        • New submissions can use either the old or the new copyright text until December 16, 2008
        • After 01h00 UTC on December 16, 2008, only submissions with new boilerplate text will be accepted
  • 5. IETF Trust Actions since Dublin (3)
    • Status of Document Submission Tools:
      • Started work to update applicable document generating/verifying tools and templates for the new boilerplate text:
        • idnits - two modes -- regular and submission checking mode (Henrik Levkowetz)
        • IDST - Perl (Glen Barney) & Python (Bill Fenner)
        • xml2rfc - RFC Editor tool (Marshall Rose & Bill Fenner)
        • nroff template - ISI
        • WORD template - Joe Touch
        • personal templates & tools - individual authors
  • 6. Boilerplate text to be included in every new IETF Document:
    • Copyright and License Text :
      • Copyright (c) [insert year] IETF Trust and the persons identified as the document authors . All rights reserved.
      • This document is subject to BCP 78 and the IETF Trust’s Legal Provisions Relating to IETF Documents ( http:// trustee.ietf.org /license-info ) in effect on the date of publication of this document. Please review these documents carefully, as they describe your rights and restrictions with respect to this document.
  • 7. Additional boilerplate text for some documents:
    • Submission Compliance for all Internet-Drafts :
      • This Internet-Draft is submitted to IETF in full conformance with the provisions of BCP 78 and BCP 79.
    • Derivative Works and Publication Limitations :
      • ( See Section 6.c of "Legal Provisions" policy )
      • Two different sets of text are possible for use on some working group documents (but neve r on any standards-track document).

    • Several good questions were raised during the open mic Q&A including:
      • What IPR rights and legal provisions pertain to pre-RFC5378 contributions into the IETF?
        • Answer: "We need to secure additional rights from the original authors for derivative works."
      • What IPR rights and legal provisions pertain to "non-IETF" submissions?
        • Answer: "We do not know, except that this is not an issue for the IETF Trust."
  • 11. IETF Trust Actions planned for the remainder of 2008 ( bis )
      • New : IPR in pre-RFC5378 submissions
      • Send weekly reminders on what will happen after 01h00 UTC on December 16th, and determine if we need to postpone Dec 16th !
      • Catch-up on publication of minutes of Trustee meetings
      • Do some trademark "policing"
