Americans for Job Security - Presentation Transcript

    1. Final Paper H1I “ Who’s Job Security?” By Mike Bayes
      • Who’s Job Security
      • We are all living through a global economic crisis that has impacted
      • millions worldwide, especially here in the United States. The failures in
      • our banking industries have created a domino effect that has crippled
      • business in all industries. In the wake of this crumbling domino effect
      • are a staggering number of job losses that has further affected
      • our ability to recover. Those lucky enough to remain employed are not
      • feeling a strong sense of security. One organization, Americans for Job
      • Security, advertises on their www.savejobs.com website and through
      • national television campaigns that they fight for “Our” jobs to
      • strengthen the economy. Looking a bit deeper at this organization has
      • me wondering, “Who’s job?” and “Who’s Job Security?”
      • Americans for Job Security (AJS) was Founded in 1997. Their website states
      • “ AJS is the only independent, bi-partisan, pro-business issue advocacy
      • organization in America. Established in 1997, AJS promotes issues that
      • strengthen the American economy.”
      • With current economic crisis, job security for those still
      • employed is critical. Can Americans for Job Security provide
      • this security?
      • AJS website claims they receive over $40,000,000 in
      • membership dues.
      • AJS website mentions the issues they stand for but do not
      • provide any information on how these campaigns are
      • going.
      • If the AJS website will not mention the efforts lets try
      • Google. Hmmm, what’s all this bad press about?
      • Claims of AJS being a Republican front can be
      • found all over the internet.
      • Link to this article
    2. While most of the AJS videos appear to be for television commercials during election period, I was able to find some on YouTube.
      • Whether AJS is front for Republican campaigns or not is not the intention of this presentation. I do not endorse or discredit AJS as an organization; I am merely trying to demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses of their organizing.
      • Based on my research, the organization gives out very little information around their services, relies too much on television and radio advertisements, does little to disclaim the negative reports about their organization, and lastly does not utilize modern technology to push their issues via the internet.
      • For those of us worried about our job security, it’s hard to find a reason that “Americans for Job Security” is working for us.
