  • SQL Server Databases are a critical component SharePoint. However, SQL Server DBAs are often left out of the loop of SharePoint requirements and training. MCM Tom Resing demonstrates how configuration and content databases are created, how and when they can be moved and other SharePoint SQL basics that a DBA new to SharePoint would appreciate.
  • I met some of you before the session. For those that don't know me, my name's Tom Resing. I'm a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist in 4 areas related to SharePoint. I'm certified in configuring WSSv3, configuring MOSS, and application development for both of them.My first programming job was in high school in Washington, DC. I got my Computer Science Degree from Northwestern in Evanston, Illinois almost 12 years ago. I've been in the technology field my entire career.
  • Here’s the Agenda. We’ll start with an Overview of the Technologies involvedThen I’ll cover some techiques and give the first demoI’ll finish by digging a little deeper with the integration. Let’s start the first demo.
  • This is a SharePoint Saturday not a SQL Saturday right? So why target a session at DBAs? SQL is a critical component of SharePoint. SharePoint implementations that get SQL wrong fail. It’s that important. I was glad to see the organizers of this event included a data track in their planning. Some of the topics in this track have really gone deep into some of the business intelligence capabilities, but that’s not what you’re going to see in this session. I want to demonstrate some of what’s going on with SharePoint and SQL and give you the confidence, as a DBA, to talk to the SharePoint guys about how you can help make their work better.
  • I’m a SharePoint guy. Even worse, I’m a developer! Why would a DBA listen to me? Working with SharePoint customers, I’ve seen first hand what can go wrong when SQL isn’t right. On top of that, I spent 3 weeks in Redmond learning for the Microsoft Certified Master in SharePoint. 3 full days were taught by SQL MCM Instructors Paul Randall and Kimberly Tripp. That’s how much importance the SharePoint product team put on the subject and it was great material.
  • Your SQL Server Hardware and Software must be 64 bit. For SharePoint 2013, you must use --- or newer. Support for 2012 R2 has not been approved yet.Let’s go to back to the Demo
