  • Maybe that’s even a good litmus test for your SharePoint consultant.  Tell him you want to stand up a public blog and ask him what you should use
  • I’m Tom Resing and I joined Jive as a Sales Engineer almost 5 months ago. <br /> I’ve specialized in SharePoint Development exclusively for the past 7 years. I’ve earned an exclusive certification, co-authored two Microsoft Press books and earned two Microsoft MVP awards.
  • Jive does three things. Portals, Social Collaboration and External Communities. Most of our customers continue to use SharePoint in one or more of the areas on the previous slide. And they use Jive for one or more of these things.

  • Anyone remember Windows Live Spaces? It was a free blog platform from Microsoft that migrated to Wordpress almost 4 years ago.
  • And lot’s of other SharePoint bloggers have made the move.
  • Even the SharePoint Team moved off of SharePoint for blogging last year.
  • You can see it in the source code. It’s actually running the latest stable edition! 3.9.1 as of 6/24/2014
  • Now there are other options. Andrew Connell, a long time SharePoint MVP, prefers Orchard, which is a .Net based content management system. One thing I like about that platform is that it can use Azure SQL, which is cloud ready compared to legacy databases like Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL.

  • WordPress versus SharePoint
  • “Microsoft has never invested a lot in their blogs. It’s ok to say that SharePoint isn’t the best blogging platform.” – Joel Oleson
  • “In fact I don’t shed a tear when I say it’s not the best wiki either. There are point solutions out there that are better than SharePoint and most SharePoint consultants will stand up and admit it.” – Joel Oleson
