  • 1. Enhanced Navigation Technology- GPS
  • 2. Introduction GPS stands for Global Positioning System, it is used for navigation. Space based satellites are used which gives the exact information about a particular location and tells correct time to reach the destination.
  • 3. How It Works  The GPS navigation system is a network of 24 satellites placed in Earth's orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense. It provides correct location and time information at any position whether its a day or night, under all weather conditions.
  • 4. The GPS navigation system devices find use in several applications in the fields of a)Military b)Marine c)Aviation d)Tracking e)Surveillance Uses of GPS Technology
  • 5. Number of GPS technology applications are there But the widely known are GPS navigation devices which are used to receive GPS signals on Earth. A GPS device gives the information about the Earth's Latitude, Longitute & Altitude. It displays maps, including streets maps, displayed in human readable format via text or in a graphical format,
  • 6.  GPS represents turn-by- turn navigation directions to a human in charge of a vehicle or via text or speech, directions fed directly to an automatic vehicle.  It can suggest the shortest route distance between the two locations.  It also represents the area with traffic congestion.
  • 7. Mobile phones with GPS capability The GPS technology is getting updated day by day, and its recent advanced advent is named as A-GPS. A-GPS stands for Assisted Global Positioning Service. This service enables a user to navigate through his phone too.
  • 8. Working Principle Of A-GPS
  • 9. A-GPS technology was introduced for mobile devices, it takes assistance from GPRS and service provider network. A typical A-GPS mobile phones uses a GPRS or other networks for developing a connection with the server of A-GPS.

  • 11. GPS Watch A GPS watch is a device with inbuilt GPS receiver that work as a single unit strap onto wrist, GPS watches are generally used for sports and fitness purposes

GPS Tracking Unit  A GPS tracking unit is used to determine the exact location of a vehicle, person, or other asset to which it is attached and to record the position of the asset at regular intervals. The recorded location data can be stored within the tracking unit, or it may be transmitted to a central location data base, or internet-connected computer,
