Creating Career Pages on your Department's Website

  2. 2. What you will learn... how to present your career opportunities so job-seekers can find them.
  3. 3. what you will need... an understanding of your department’s recruitment goals, and the hiring process for each civil-service classification.
  4. 4. what you will not need... an understanding of web design or html or css programming.
  5. 5. the challenge facing state agencies... helping highly skilled professionals find our career opportunities and understand our complex application process.
  6. 6. last year the state personnel board tooka significant step to address this.
  7. 7. but what can your department do? despite spb’s best efforts, people will still search our department websites looking for career opportunities, so we might as well help them out.
  8. 8. ca. correctional health care services recruiting health care and other professionals to work inside of california’s prison system.
  9. 9. it all started with an email addressand a phone number.
  10. 10. then we got organized.
  11. 11. now, let’s get started...
  12. 12. organize your careers... and assemble links to your exam bulletins, test instruments and vacancies.
  13. 13. as promised, you won’t need to... know much about web design, just organize your information in a word document, and work with your department’s webmasters.

  16. 16. step 2: assemble the urls for a vpos“class code” search result.
  17. 17. don’t worry. I’m going to show youhow to find them.

  19. 19. that’s right. it’s that easy.the class code is in the url.
  20. 20. step 3: meet with your departmentwebmasters, and show them what you want.
  21. 21. step 4: meet with your hr managementand volunteer to project-manage this.
